Not sure how they got it removed in the end but the unit at fault (777011) is back out in service today on the Ormskirk line. Next working the 1216 Liverpool Central to Ormskirk. How did the dead train in central reversing siding finally get removed ?
That might help reduce the awful dwell times and so late running on Chester services. Even more so if they explained it to passengers!I was talking to one of the managers yesterday, and he was saying that the door preselect is doing a/b testing and should be turned back on once they've established it isn't responsible for the door fault, apparently they are on about 20 software revisions now

I am sure we were told that journey times would be cut with the class 777s. That didn't age well. They will struggle to beat the class 507 dwell times. That might help reduce the awful dwell times and so late running on Chester services. Even more so if they explained it to passengers!
They have to redo the timetables which while old trains still in use then can’t do that to speed up times. I’d expect that to happen on next timetable change in DecemberI am sure we were told that journey times would be cut with the class 777s. That didn't age well. The old stock is much slower acceleration wise but much more efficient with station dwell times. They have to redo the timetables which while old trains still in use then can’t do that to speed up times. I’d expect that to happen on next timetable change in December
I think what they should have done keep it the same way it was on new units as half the issue is waiting for the doors to release and having to press button to open them. Which doesn’t happen on old stockThe old stock is much slower acceleration wise but much more efficient with station dwell times.
Any time gained with quicker acceleration on the 777 I've noticed is lost at the next station - in comparison to other DOO operation the drivers seem to take an age to release the doors - so as it is they just about manage to keep to 50X times in most places.
I would assume that drivers are driving to the current timetable so they’ll be taking into account door opening and closing times. We’ll have to wait and see what happens when the 507s go and the new timetable comes in.The old stock is much slower acceleration wise but much more efficient with station dwell times.

The 16:47 Liverpool Central to Southport was an 8 car formation today - 777016 + 777025 (also the inbound working). Is this old news?Today looks to be the first day of purely 777 usage, at least from an allocation point of view. No 507s allocated at all, though I believe they’re on standby should faults occur on the Ormskirk - Hunts Cross line.

Can someone post a close up photograph of the shoe gear on a 777.
Thanks in anticipation !
Many thanks for that, but I can't see the shoe itself. I presume, being in the raised position, it's hiding in its GRP shroud ?How about this?

Arbon - Merseyrail Class 777
At the bogie below a car connection. These trains use a third rail, which is fed with 750 volts DC on the core Merseyrail network. The Class 777s have a dual voltage capability to use 25 kV 50 Hz electrification on any extensions. Switzerland, May 30, 2022. (3/3)www.flickr.com
Working OMS-HNX and SOP-LVC is [supposedly] temporary, until a satisfactory solution is found to having 8 car services call at Cressington. Link below to Merseyrail timetable changes.I noticed in PTS that some new diagrams have appeared but the diagram listing doesn't appear to have been updated. Are these the new 8 car diagrams on the Southport service? Is the Ormskirk to Hunts Cross a temporary fix or is it likely to become a permanent feature? More 777s in service too.
I can't believe they haven't 'found a solution' to Cressington. They obviously knew it was a problem several years ago when they upgraded all platforms on the system with the exception of the narrow extensions at Cressington. Why is it not possible to hop off/climb up to the doors at that end of the train? No different from with the 507s. If H&S mean selective door operation, well this technology has been in use for years so why was it not implemented sooner?Working OMS-HNX and SOP-LVC is [supposedly] temporary, until a satisfactory solution is found to having 8 car services call at Cressington. Northern Line Route & Timetable Changes
As the roll out of the new fleet enters its final phase, customers will begin to see eight-car services on the Southport line. This means, from Sunday 25 August, there will be some temporary changes to Northern line routes with train times slightly amended.www.merseyrail.org
A solution has been found and SDO will be put in place. Awaiting Network rail to install I believe at various stations as well as the 777s to then have the software fully tested and in placeI can't believe they haven't 'found a solution' to Cressington. That solution was always available. What is unbelievable is the delay in implementing it.A solution has been found and SDO will be put in place. Awaiting Network rail to install I believe at various stations as well as the 777s to then have the software fully tested and in place

No 8 car services can operate on the Wirral without selective door opening (Hamilton Square, Green Lane, Bidston) so no chance just yet
BureaucracyI simply can't understand why SDO is causing problems with any unit delivered in the last 20 years, it should be a mandatory requirement by now, 20 years ago when the 222s were delivered the driver could stop at any station, even if it only took one coach, and we could select the number of coaches that the doors were released, how can this still be a problem now?
