Though two of the sides intersect with each other (Ilkley-Bradford and Leeds-Skipton), which is unlike any quadrilateral I've ever seen!Indeed, so usually it has four points and five sides...

Perhaps we're taking this too literally...Though two of the sides intersect with each other (Ilkley-Bradford and Leeds-Skipton), which is unlike any quadrilateral I've ever seen!
The platform extensions at the likes of Guiseley, Menston and Burley look to be physically complete but remain barriered off. Is there any reason for this eg does someone from ORR have to inspect them? Not until 323s are deployed en masse on Manchester Airport to Blackpool North services. More 331s will be required in Yorkshire for the December timetable change when six car working begins,
They don’t look complete yet, a few haven’t had tactile paving completely finished yet.The platform extensions at the likes of Guiseley, Menston and Burley look to be physically complete but remain barriered off. Is there any reason for this eg does someone from ORR have to inspect them?
Keeping them barriered off seems daft and at some cost-I noticed the Burley upside platform barrier had blown over in the wind yesterday
They finished Bingley a while ago but it has been bordered off ever since. Not sure why though, could just be until the 6 carriage train sets are running. The platform extensions at the likes of Guiseley, Menston and Burley look to be physically complete but remain barriered off. It won't be repeated any time soon...333009 has done a round trip in passenger service between Leeds and Doncaster this morning. Must be one of the first 333 services since the transfers started?
RTT shows it being swapped out for a 331 once it arrives back at Leeds, so just the two trips for today, it would seem.
Why not?It won't be repeated any time soon...
I believe it happened a few months ago as a last minute swap.333009 has done a round trip in passenger service between Leeds and Doncaster this morning. Must be one of the first 333 services since the transfers started?
The platform at South Elmsall is very tight - when 331/1s worked the route the rear door was locked out by ASDO.Why not?
It won't have been 'rear door locked out' as on a 333, once a door is locked out only a fitter can unlock it at a maintenance depot. There was previously a restriction in the Sectional Appendix about the length of platforms for 333s which instructed at certain stations (maybe Outwood, Sandal, Fitzwilliam and Elmsall) that they were to be local door only operation or the rear door be locked out of something due to the platform length being too smaller margin for error and leaving the rear doors not on the platform
Oh yeah I know that practically that was a no go but these things don't always match up between reality and a piece of paperIt won't have been 'rear door locked out' as on a 333, once a door is locked out only a fitter can unlock it at a maintenance depot.
A month on and they're still barriered off. Look complete to me (as they did a month ago) with tactile paving. They don’t look complete yet, a few haven’t had tactile paving completely finished yet.
A month is nothing. There are platform extensions at some Lancashire stations as well and Leyland was completed about 7 months ago but the extensions are still barriered off so they are still using SDO on 6-car services.A month on and they're still barriered off. They’ve already begun their training.I'm posting this here because the 333 Doncaster Thread is closed but When do Doncaster Crews start their training on the 333s?
I suspect the deciding factor is the presence of obstacles in the way of full platform extensions. It seems to have been decided that moving signalling equipment is too difficult; likewise physical obstacles such as bridges or additional land take.Idiotic question but how was it decided which platforms would be lengthened and which would be SDO'd? Was it just on peak time patronage or....?
EDIT: I was rattling down Airedale on a 3 car sprinter this morning and it made me repeat this thought. As an example from when I was staring out the window this morning and pondering this:
Steeton and Silsden - not being changed, so presumably SDO on the 2x3 car 331s
Keighley - long enough already
Crossflatts- presumably SDO? (Unless I've missed extension works there)
Bingley - being extended
So are the extensions only at the ones that are served by the semi-fasts? But they're also the trains that aren't being lengthened given they're diesel through to Bentham/Carlisle lines!
I just wondered. Apologies if off-topic.
Saltaire is still due to be extended; watch this space.Could it be they are yet to get round to doing it?
Saltaire is a prime example of this, there was a new article from the Telegraph and Argus last year about the platforms being extended, yet they have yet to do this station.
Are they going to be able to do Saltaire? It is a wooden platform structure done on the cheap in the 1980s which surely doesn’t meet today’s safety standards?Saltaire is still due to be extended; watch this space.
Well they're going to so I'm sure it'll work out! They're only extending it, the new structure doesn't have to match the original. Are they going to be able to do Saltaire? It is a wooden platform structure done on the cheap in the 1980s which surely doesn’t meet today’s safety standards?
Last time I was involved in a platform extension it was for a similar wooden platform design. The extension was a similar design with wooden frame and I think GRP panels. This was about a decade ago so not sure whether this approach is still permitted under current standards.Well they're going to so I'm sure it'll work out!
