Trump is probably suffering from Frontotemporal Dementia, formerly known as Hick's Disease. Although it's most commonly diagnosed in 45 to 65 year olds, 20-25% of diagnoses are after 65. It's a fairly common form of dementia, second only to Alzheimer's, and a lot of Trump's most recent behaviour would seem to fit well with its common aspects. Trump would never agree to be examined for it, or anything else,of course, anymore than he'd allow any of his medical records to see the light of day, particularly in relation to his right ear!

…or his bone spurs.

Trump just had his Biden moment live on stage. He was telling a black journalists that Kamala is Indian and not black and they are laughing at him. Trump was supposed to be asked questions for an hour at NABJ. He was pulled off stage after just 35 minutesby his handlers. This is a complete and utter disaster.

His supporters are defending him on X by saying she isn't African-American. Well, no, she's half Jamaican which last time I checked wasn't in Africa - but that will be their 'get out of jail card' as they'll gaslight until people think 'oh, I think I know what Trump meant to say'.

No, what he said shows who he is. He was nasty to all the women, and has a history of being nasty to black people and women (and certainly both).

I think the ultimate moment (and there were many contenders) was when he referred to the illegal immigrants coming and taking 'black jobs'. He couldn't define what a black job was (saying he meant black jobs are all jobs) but I think we all know that he meant jobs like cleaners, servers etc. That must have been the most racist thing of all.

I'd say this was a more successful (self) assassination attempt than the first one. It could very well end him.

It was a proper Vaudeville hook moment by Trump's team. His worst moments of ignorance, bile and incoherency yet. This is his election to lose and so far against Harris he's giving it his best shot..I'm amazed.

Its funny, in the past the right in America have attacked people for not being white enough, when they have a percentage of "black" DNA, now it seems you can not be black enough too for some folks.

Trump's brain just could not compute how you can be half one thing and half another, on the basis of having two parents.

Plus claiming she wasn't black before and is now faking it was never going to be a smoking gun moment. Other supporters are saying Kamala Harris isn't true black because of her upbringing and lifestyle. Presumably the same racist assumption that black people can only live one way and only so 'black jobs'.

I've just watched a clip of this, and oh my goodness. He didn't just drop the ball, he dropped it down a mine shaft, fell in after it, then found a spade at the bottom and started digging deeper. If I were him, I jump onboard Air Force Trump, get the pilot to fill the tanks really full, then fly somewhere without internet access..

He mixed stuff up all the time, but no one cares, because he isn‘t Joe Biden…
Not so sure - because the comparator now is a very incisive, switched-on Kamala Harris. The confused old man is Trump. And at least Biden is a basically decent character, whereas all Trump's aggressive bigotry is starting to come out. Of course it won't undermine the faith of his core believers, but watch this space!

The older he gets the less he'll be able to rely on his internal filters. All one and a half of them.

I suspect that in that case it will depend by how much he loses. If it's a similar result to 2020, then I'm pretty sure he or one of his children will be back, and he'll remain in control of the GOP. If on the other hand, Kamala is able to cement a bigger lead, and Trump ends up getting defeated very decisively, causing the Republicans to lose control of the House too, that's likely to give whatever remains of the anti-Trump faction in the Republicans more chance to mobilise.
Trump is clearly going to be too old to run in 2028, the Republican party wouldnt support him again and there is zero chance his court cases wont catch up with him over 4 years if he doesnt win the election.....

Putin now knows who is going to win and is almost trolling Trump at this point. Trump bragged how he was the only person who could secure his release if he won.

Three US citizens imprisoned in Russia, including Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, are expected to be released on Thursday under a prisoner exchange deal.

Gershkovich, US Marine veteran Paul Whelan, and Russian-American radio journalist Alsu Kurmasheva will be released under the deal agreed by the Biden administration, a senior US official confirmed.

Others are believed to be part of the deal. The exchange has not occurred yet but is expected later today.

I wonder if and when China will also start to be nice to Biden ahead of a now more likely Harris presidency?

it is the birther conspiracy approach. He knows his hard of thinking supporters will lap it up and regurgitate on command.

lets see - Trump is the one who will face questions about his mental competency now Biden has gone.

It could very well end him.
it wont - remember he had done lots of Black Americans, apparently. ( and we should assume that black people will obviously vote for a black person. That seems to be approaching the kind of views we are criticising.)

Unlike others on here, I think Trump's coming defeat will actually be the beginning of a fairly rapid repudiation of the man, his family, and all the remaining hangers-

I hope so. America needs a return to Reagan-era Republicans, where pragmatically getting things done was what mattered, not stupid conspiracy theories.

A lot of Republicans are still very decent people, including the people who count the votes fairly and honestly despite coming under huge pressure.

as with the conservative party in this country the party they think they support no longer exists. It is now a crank right, authoritarian personality cult for an orange coloured human haemorrhoid.

While Reagan and his ideology are far better than Trump's, I think Reagan actually laid the groundwork for Trump's rise to power: enabler of globalisation and trickle down economics that doesn't work for many ordinary citizens, exacerbated by the GFC caused by deregulation that Reagan pushed through. Trump definitely is not the answer, but he said enough to convince those who suffered from Reagan's damage and lack of reversal from his successors to become President.

Trump's falling off has been quite spectacular. I saw the event with the black journalists and could not believe it. Could not have foreseen this a couple of weeks ago!

How politics can still bring surprises.

It is astonishing to watch. He is absolutely crumbling under the pressure, and I think at least part of his decision to run again for the Presidency was based on instinctively understanding that Biden was not the Biden of 2020.

He needs a strong VP, and I wonder if he might not replace Vance with someone who can make inroads to the suburban voters in Georgia and Arizona that he so badly needs.

He really did not foresee the Dems having the guts to change candidate. And neither did I, to be honest.

Harris is easily attackable and they still haven't really managed to score a point against her. It looks like she has an almost free run at the moment. Remarkable.

Changing his VP now would be a mark of weakness. He's a bit snookered.

I think the potential has always been there but it was hidden as he was up against Biden. They need to reboot their campaign and how they approach Harris, playing the race card is not going to get them anywhere. It'll only appeal to folks who'll vote for him anyway and put off more floating voters.

I don’t think that will stop them. My feeling is that the Republican Party hierarchy is in the same state as many in the Conservative Party here: believing that the hard-right policies that they want are just what most of the people in the country want and so will sweep them into power.

Some weeks ago I read, probably in The Grauniad, a piece about how a surprising proportion of black voters were inclining towards the Republicans. I think that one reason was that they felt that the Democrats had failed to really change their situation and were hoping that the Republicans might do so, if indirectly.

It is unbelievable. She shouldn't be allowed to have a free run like this, but I think Trump just doesn't know how to deal with her. He'll get increasingly nasty as the election draws nearer, but as we saw in 2020, he won't win with such tactics.

The thing that might hurt Trump the most is that Harris is openly laughing at him. She's not trying to take the high ground, she's simply treating him like a silly old man. And more than anything, the Republicans need to be very careful of just how polished she is. She makes mistakes and laughs at herself, she's got an image of being accessible and normal, and Trump is coming across as completely deluded and out of touch.

Trump can and will fight back, but they need a strategy that involves more than calling her playground insults.

If he makes any more appearances like that, or does any more debates, he will only get worse. It isn't about his MAGA base, but everyone else and he's losing support every day.

I wouldn't say we're at the stage where we can say he is definitely going to lose, as we could all do with 99.99% confidence regarding the success of the Tories in the last election, but it has hurt him and will keep hurting him. Using clips of yesterday and continuing to point how weird he is and the party is having an effect.

He's been posting deranged comments on Truth Social all night/day.. worse than usual!

What are the possible attack lines? Outside of misogyny and racism, I can only really think of how she didn't seem to do much about the border. But that could be countered by pointing out that Trump supporters blocked tougher measures just to stop Biden claiming a success. As to not doing much else as VP, Mike Pence didn't do much either, other than avoiding being hung by Trump supporters.

She does seem to have moved on from her rather lacklustre performance in 2020, and the Dem side certainly seems to be energised. I now suspect that if she wins she may turn out to be a better president than people would have predicted four years ago.

The betting odds at Oddschecker still have Trump as the favourite (4/5) with Harris at 5/4.

Does that mean that the market is wrong, and its a chance to make some money?

They have been shortening a lot since Harris almost inevitably became frontrunner for the Democrats. Also worth remembering that bookies' odds are not purely probability, they also have to consider betting behaviour to limit potential financial losses on their part.
