48022 transferred to chesterfield
I wonder if we'll be getting any more Solo SRs? 47464 hasn't tracked since it broke down in Matlock on Friday, 47467 only did a couple of runs this morning before returning back to the depot and only 47726 of the others has tracked recently. I think I'm right in saying some of the Matlock routes need either a Solo or the short E200.

Can't say I'm surprised something like this has happened considering we've got several of our solos off the road.

That makes two Chesterfield (closed top) vehicles I'm missing photographs of now, this and 12173 which keeps evading me. Managed to snap 19253 this evening.

Solo SR 48022 is operating in Chesterfield, just photographed it although poorly framed. Tracking as 47724

Another Yutong has entered service at Rawmarsh this morning; Vehicle 73011 YH24 MBY.

That's 13 of the 23 Yutongs out in service now. There hasn't been a "new" one to hit the road in just over a month.

Another thing: Bustimes says that 72023 operated part of a working that isn't a 22x or 221 (The routes they were purchased for). Does anybody know if this actually happened? Or was this a ticket machine swap?

73019 YH24 MDV has also hit the road

I nearly went last Saturday but decided on a Midlands area trip instead.

As quite a few Yutongs are not yet in service, I am pleased to have deferred my plans to go and ride one.

I walked past Stonegravels depot in Chesterfield yesterday and usually where you see the vehicles parked for withdrawal, there is now a fleet of Electric Double Deckers. Are these the new buses for Chesterfield or are they off elsewhere? They do look very smart!

Barnsley's 24186 has apparently transfered to Hull, can anyone confirm this?

All twenty-three of the Yutong E12s for Rawmarsh depot have entered service. Is anybody aware of a potential launch event on the horizon for these vehicles similar to how Trentbarton advertise their new buses?

Some extra work heading stonegravels way, does anyone have an idea what vehicle type they would use?

Update on 140-143 bus services – new operator to take over the service
Earlier this month we updated you on the reliability and service issues that Derbyshire Community Transport (DCT) had been experiencing with the 140/141/142/143 which run around the Alfreton/Crich/Holloway/Matlock/Tansley/Wessington area.
As a result of these issues it was agreed DCT would give up the contract to run the service. Since then, our public transport team have been working hard to retender the service and agree a new operator.
We’re now pleased to let you know that from Tuesday 27th August, Stagecoach Yorkshire will be taking on the contract for these bus services. The buses will run on the same route and timetable and also continue to serve the local schools.
We know how important rural services like this one are, and so we are pleased to have been able to secure a new operator to improve the reliability and service in these areas.
Timetable and ticketing information will be made available when ready through Stagecoach Yorkshire's website, https://www.stagecoachbus.com/about/yorkshire

They did a launch event at Wentworth Woodhouse before the vehicles entered service.

They should make a new route from Alfreton via Crich to Wirksworth. Link up nicely.

Makes a Stagecoach Gold DayRider available for journeys to Crich Tramway Museum off the X17. Perhaps some advertising on the X17 for this would be a good idea.

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

The services will probably use some of the vehicles being released from Rawmarsh with the Yutong’s now fully in service.

Pretty much as I expected - I just couldn't see another operator having the capacity.

I wonder if in the longer term there will be some consolidation with the 157-160 and also if Stagecoach will introduce a Matlock ticket - at the moment only the Gold ticket is valid which makes it expensive to travel. (Indeed it's cheaper to buy a bus-only Wayfarer unless you are travelling in the morning peak).

Would a normal size E200 be suitable? Considering the routes Hulleys get an Evora down I'd be surprised if they were too big.

Pretty certain that the Derbyshire Wayfarer, bus only and bus and rail options have no morning peak restrictions on buses…?

The Gold Ticket covers a huge area and if you are travelling very widely is great value. I think the problem is that in some areas of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire it is the only Stagecoach ticket available. A similar ticket to the Silver ticket would be useful for the southern end of the gold area.

I do find it odd that living in Chesterfield, I can get all way up to Pontefract on a silver ticket, but cannot get to Shirebrook...

The fact that the standard Chesterfield DayRider does not cover anything past Hollingwood to the east is ridiculous.

That’s what I was getting at. I have a friend who lives in Bolsover who says he can get a Silver ticket to travel to and from Wakefield 40 miles away, but has to buy the more expensive Gold ticket to just travel to and from Mansfield 8 miles away.

The £2 single fares have been great for single and return trips outside of zones like Chesterfield and Mansfield but if this goes at the end of the year, the £9.50 Gold ticket will often be the cheapest return fare in many of these areas. Perhaps the boundary between Stagecoach Yorkshire and East Midlands doesn’t help in some of these locations.

I've just looked it up and you are correct. I wish I'd checked a few months back when I was refused with one on a Stagecoach bus before 9.

That's pretty much my point. The areas are centred on Sheffield which doesn't work well for anyone in or around Chesterfield. It could do with a re-think especially now they offer more services further in to Derbyshire than previously, not just these new ones but the X17 extension, 65, 48/49 etc.

The bus Wayfarer is also an introductory price (although they don't say for how long) so will likely end up at a similar price to the Gold ticket once that period ends.

Stagecoach Yorkshire has released their proposed changes to the Chesterfield network shown here: https://www.stagecoachbus.com/servi...rticle?SituationId=ID-06/08/2024-14:40:26:184

Customers can review these changes and submit feedback up until the 30th of August

Below is a summary of the changes we are planning for 27th October. We welcome customer feedback or suggestions to these proposals before they are finalised.

Please review the list below to see how your bus service is impacted and give feedback by visiting our dedicated feedback form here.

If your service isn’t included in the list below there are no planned changes to it at the moment.

We'll review the results alongside comments from our own staff, to make suitable adjustments as necessary.

The consultation for these services will close on 30th August 2024.

1 & 1a | Newbold | Chesterfield | Royal Hospital | Bolsover | Hillstown | Shirebrook | Langwith

The 1 and 1a will have a timetable and route change to provide new links and more frequent buses to the hospital.

1 and 1a buses will no longer serve Newbold. This part of the route will be replaced with the new service 10, which will use the same route between Chesterfield and Newbold and run up to every 20 minutes. See the section on the 10 for more details.

  • Chesterfield | Chesterfield Royal Hospital up to every 15 minutes
    • 1 and 1a will provide buses up to every 15 minutes between Chesterfield town centre and Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
  • Chesterfield | Markham Vale | Bolsover | Hillstown up to every 30 minutes
    • 1 and 1a will provide buses up to every 30 minutes between Chesterfield, Bolsover and Hillstown.
    • The 1 will have a small route change to reach stops in Arkwright Village.
    • The 1a route in New Bolsover will change slightly with buses no longer stopping on Charlesworth Street.
  • 1 Chesterfield | Markham Vale | Bolsover | Shirebrook | Whaley Thorns up to every hour
    • Buses will continue to run to Shirebrook, Langwith and Whaley Thorns hourly
    • The 1 will no longer serve Scarcliffe, buses on the 1a will serve Scarcliffe instead.
    • In Shirebrook buses will now also serve Church Drive, Central Drive, New Brook Business Park and Sports Direct
  • 1a Chesterfield | Markham Vale | Bolsover | Scarcliffe | Palterton up to every hour
    • The 1a will be extended from Hillstown in a one-way loop to Scarcliffe, Palterton and back to Hillstown where buses will continue back to Chesterfield.
See the new 1 and 1a route map here.

5 | Newbold | Chesterfield | Green Farm

This service will no longer run due low customer numbers.

10 | Chesterfield | Newbold

The new service 10 will replace the 1 and 1a between Newbold and Chesterfield to improve punctuality.

In Chesterfield buses will start and finish on Elder Way, in Newbold the 10 will use the same route as the 1 and 1a do now. See the route map here

The 10 will run up to every 20 minutes during Monday to Saturday daytimes, and every 30 minutes during the evenings and on Sundays.

For Chesterfield Royal Hospital change in Chesterfield town centre onto the 1 or 1a which will run up to every 15 minutes to the hospital from Stephenson Place.

X17 | Barnsley | Meadowhall | Sheffield | Chesterfield | Matlock | Wirksworth

The X17 route will be changing near Meadowhall and in Walton.

Near Meadowhall

There will be a new route between Meadowhall interchange and Arena Square, this means X17 buses will no longer stop right outside IKEA. Please see the new route map for the Meadowhall area here.

In Walton

During Monday to Saturday daytimes, X17 will reach more stops in Walton. There’ll be two routes between Chesterfield and The Blue Stoops in Walton, X17 buses will run hourly on each route.

  • Buses will run hourly along the current route reaching Whitecotes and Walton Hospital.
  • Buses will also run hourly along Hunloke Avenue and Walton Road, replacing the services 90 and 90a in these areas.
See the route map for the Walton area here.

Evening and Sunday buses on the X17 will continue to use the same route in Walton as they do now.

The new service 91 will provide evening and Sunday buses along Hunloke Avenue. See the section on the 91 below for more details.

39 | Holme Hall | Loundsley Green | Chesterfield | Grangewood | Grangewood Farm

Buses will run more often, up to every 15 minutes during Monday to Saturday daytimes.

43a | Sheffield | Heeley | Woodseats | Lowedges

The route number for the 43a will be changed to 42. There are no changes to the timetable or route.

54 & 54a | Chesterfield | North Wingfield | Clay Cross

Buses will run more often, up to every 12 minutes, during Monday to Saturday daytimes and there will be more journeys running in the evenings as well.

All buses will use the same route in North Wingfield along Alma Road and Whiteleas Avenue and will be numbered 54.

66 | Chesterfield | Baslow | Calver | Eyam | Tideswell | Buxton

There will be an extra trip between Chesterfield and Buxton in the morning and evening, these buses will be numbered as the X66 and will travel through Baslow, Sparrowpit and Dove Holes.

90, 90a & 90b | Creswell | Markham Vale | Staveley | Chesterfield | Walton | Yew Tree

We’re simplifying the route buses use in Walton and Yew Tree.

All Monday to Saturday daytime journeys on 90 and 90a will now follow the same route between Chesterfield, Walton and Yew Tree. This means buses up to every 30 minutes along Chatsworth Road, Greenways, Moorland View Road and to Yew Tree.

Hunloke Avenue will be served by journeys on X17 during Monday to Saturday daytimes and the new 91 on evenings and Sundays.

See the route map for the Walton area here

Evening and Sunday buses on the 90a will have their route number changed to the 91, buses will use the same route as they do now. See the section on the 91 for more details.

There are no changes to the 90, 90a or 90b between Chesterfield, Staveley, Markham Vale, Clowne and Creswell.

91 | Chesterfield | Walton | Yew Tree

This is a new service replacing evening and Sunday buses on the 90a between Chesterfield, Walton and Yew Tree.

This new evening service will use the same route as the evenings and Sunday buses on the 90a do now.

See the route map for the Walton area here.

My thoughts on some of the changes:

Every 15 minutes to the hospital would be brilliant, however it may be wise to renumber these hospital short workings as "1H" or something to that effect; avoiding confusion is important.

Sad to see my direct connection from Newbold to Bolsover go; however I can imagine the punctuality of the 10 will satisfy me enough .

5 | Newbold | Chesterfield | Green Farm

This service will no longer run due low customer numbers.

This is not going to go down well... My Mother frequently uses this route, as do many other people. It is a lifeline service for many elderly folk too.

Cross-town services rarely work as intended, Nottingham City Transport are a great example of a network being 'award winning' without the use of cross-town(city) services.

Good change! For those not local, the number 10 was the long-standing route to Newbold. In 2019, the 10 was abolished along with the Bolsover services 82 and 83 to form the 1 which currently runs between Newbold, Chesterfield centre and Bolsover (and other places). Punctuality issues have forever plagued us Newbold residents! Traffic on the Bolsover side of town would detrimentally affect Newbold services, with some trips being skipped entirely. The Newbold "loop" currently takes 29 minutes to complete, meaning a peak vehicle requirement of 2 is necessary (with 10 minute layovers in Chesterfield assuming they don't introduce stopping time at Littlemoor shops).

Isn't the X17 meant to be an express service? The recent 'extension' to Matlock farm park and now this added loop around Walton goes against this.

Still not my desired service between Chesterfield and Buxton running all day, but I'll take it!

I've got mixed feelings about the X17 change. It's nice to see them widening the scope, but I'd have extended it via Greenways to Walton Shops then up Somersby Ave and Walton Back Lane to Acorn Ridge. That would pick up a decent amount of extra traffic. The idea with having the 90 and 90a alternate routes in Walton is stupid, and that would avoid needing to do it that way.

That said, the section along Whitecotes Lane seems very popular so in some ways cutting this to hourly would seem a backwards step. To me, the X17 is popular enough that it could be increased to every 20 minutes between Sheffield and Chesterfield, with one terminating at Walton Shops or Yew Tree and the other two keeping on to Matlock.

The 91 still doesn't address the issue that most people in Walton travelling evening or Sunday want to go to Morrisons so by going via Boythorpe we don't have that option so very few use the service. However, as it's a council contract I don't suppose Stagecoach have much say over the route.

I'm not surprised the 5 is being cancelled - the change last time made it so pointless I'd be surprised if anyone uses it. Personally, I think having two Newbold services would make more sense. The loop of the 1 (10) takes too long, having one bus serving west of Dunston Lane and another the east side but incorporating part of the 5 route would seem better. Could even run these half-hourly, journey time would average out the same at currently as you've got to do a long loop one way or the other at the moment. Depends on the timetabling, but running what you call the 1H as a 10H would seem more sensible to me?

Another part of the 5 could be replaced by re-routing the 90 via Highfield Road - would only add a couple of minutes and there are plenty of buses down Sheffield Road anyway. Would also give a direct link from that area to Tesco which I'd imagine would add a few passengers.

It is good to see the 90 going back to half-hourly in Walton, although the route change doesn't make sense to me. We keep getting dropped journeys which at the moment means a 2 hour (or more) gap - just had one this morning and last week a peak time one was terminated short in Chesterfield so those using the bus to get to work were late. At least now one dropped journey will only mean a hour between buses.

On the 90, while the connection beyond town has some benefits, I wonder if they'd be better running this as a stand-alone Markham Vale to Chesterfield route, and have a discrete route for Walton, or one linked with the new 10. For me, the 1 would be the obvious bus to have extended to Creswell, from Whaley Thorns and looping back to Markham Vale. Could have kept a 20 minute frequency on the section between Chesterfield and Markham Vale then split there, one to Clowne and Creswell, one to Shirebrook, Langwith and Creswell and one to Scarcliffe.

While one bus extra an hour to the hospital is good, we already have 6 if you include the 55, 80 and 84. I'd prefer to see direct links from other areas to be honest. If the 1H is really just going to shuttle from town to the Royal it seems an odd use of a bus.

On Chesterfield to Buxton, that just doesn't seem to work. The 66 did poorly, Hulleys tried it with the X70 and while the run I did was fairly well used it didn't seem to be enough. Only other option I could see would be to extend the X17 which terminates at Matlock, but at that point you really need to split the X17 in to several discrete services rather than adding more variants. That might have been an option if the Transpeak had been cut as was mooted in the past, but it seems to be doing OK now.

As an aside, the Zebra bid was based on being for certain services and frequencies. If some services are cancelled and others cut in frequency, does that have any impact?

And as a general question, wasn't some of the BSIP money for infrastructure improvements such as bus priority? There are a few pinch points where changes could help reduce journey times, make things more reliable and give the bus an advantage over what for most are fairly short car trips.

That has the disadvantage of creating an uneven frequency beyond Chesterfield. That said, it does seem to be a popular route so there might even be a justification for increasing to every 15 minutes, which solves that issue.

Wonder if it might be worth knocking out a few more stops on the way into Sheffield as well. It stops several times in Woodseats and Heeley, which seems unnecessary given that corridor is well served by the 20, 24/25 and 43/43a/44.

Wonder if it might be worth knocking out a few more stops on the way into Sheffield as well. It stops several times in Woodseats and Heeley, which seems unnecessary given that corridor is well served by the 20, 24/25 and 43/43a/44.
Yes, I'd considered both options. I'm not sure 40/20 would be a massively bad thing between Chesterfield and Matlock, could even run one as a limited stop on that section to gain a couple of minutes. That said, while it will call at all stops I suspect once past Acorn Ridge in practice it won't stop much so unlikely to make a load of difference. There are other options such as having one always running past Matlock Farm Park but carrying on down Sydnope Hill and running in to Matlock that way. The poor parking on Chesterfield Road in Two Dales might make that less viable than anything though.

I do think going to every 15 minutes could be an option as well - after all, it's still less frequent than the Red Arrow which seems viable using coaches. Could run one to Clay Cross or even have a fast bus to Bolsover.

That said, another option would be to only have one Matlock bus running as an X17 on to Sheffield and have the other running as an all-stops 17 through to the Hospital and possibly Bolsover. A direct link to the hospital from Matlock and the more rural parts can't be a bad thing and it would still connect at Chesterfield for anyone wanting to run direct.

Agree also about reducing the stops - would be good in the peaks at least to have a non or very limited stop bus which would stack up well against the train.

I really think the Sheffield to Chesterfield corridor could be improved. For example, a route running via Dunston and Sheepbridge should do well - at the moment anyone there has to go the 'wrong way' in to town on the fairly slow 1 to make a connection, plus there is a big new housing estate not served at all by buses they could tap in to.
