I’ve noticed that the RailAdventure class 43 power cars carry a full EVN on the exterior. Are they the only locomotives (apart from the Clayton class 18s) to carry these?

For those, like me who have no idea what an EVN is it stands for European Vehicle Number.

For anyone wanting to know more there's a detailed article here https://www.gaugemasterretail.com/rightlines-article/european_stock_numbering.html

Introduction

In a previous article, Hunting Lions in Zürich, I showed photos of the locomotive numbers and listed the coach running numbers with the promise that I would compile a future article to explain these. Here we are!

The idea is that a unified system is used across Europe to uniquely identify any item of rolling stock/motive power.

Not only will this article (attempt to) explain the fields of the full number, it will also cover the calculation of the checksum (verification) digit that it includes.

Where possible, I have tried to reference data from the relevant administration authorities. However, this has not always been possible without cost, so some third-party information may be presented which is offered without guarantee of total accuracy but which shows a modicum of consistency with official data.

The Northern Irish locos also have EVNs, as they run internationally.

The photos of 93001 at RailLive show that there’s no EVN externally. As an aside, I’ve seen many new freight wagons recently which have only an EVN.

I believe Eurostar trains carry EVNs, at least the 374s do.

Northern's class 195 and 331 units carry full EVNs on the sides of each vehicle....but incorrectly written, with no spaces or hyphens.

No surprise there given that in recent years a lot of the UK fleet numbers have been incorrectly written on the stock without the spaces between the class identifier and the individual fleet identifier - even though it is still specified in the standards somewhere...

Exported vehicles will be registered in their new homes. Does anyone remember the move of Seacows to Romania, back in 2012/3? (What the Romanians did to us to deserve that I can't imagine!)

I'm afraid I can't remember where I got the image from.

There’s an example in the first post of the previous thread about EVN display, back in January:

But I think the usual way would be to highlight the 6 digit national number within the leading code numbers and final check digit.
