Indeed, a lot of 450s have been robbed from other services for Royal Ascot enhancements.

A friend is currently on his way to Portsmouth for the IOW Festival, squeezed into a single 450.
Could feel the effects of this today, I'm scheduled to get a Portsmouth via Winchester service later today, RTT shows a 4 car 450 on both my outward and return journeys, is this likely to be full to the brim?

Update: it did surprisingly well with most seats taken but not many standing. To make it more on topic I'll add that I've just seen 701060 under it's own power through Micheldever :)

Apparently according to the last staff notice and some staff member on twitter, there's going to be a load more 458/4s coming into passenger service than initially expected on the metro routes, and since they're basically covering until 701s arrive, this can only mean it's going to still be quite a while until the 701s deploy further...

Do you mind me asking when this staff notice was published/issued? The most recent one I have seen states Weybridge via hounslow on one diagram per day
I'm not exactly sure but it seems people got in yesterday evening - I couldn't tell you what it's called since I just hear about these things through the grapevine
It's a "traction bulletin"

Yes, if its the same one ive seen only the already stated diagram is included, as well as a mention that they will be used on weybridge via hounslow services at the moment. The little route map diagram also shows that they can work via richmond

Then once the 701s do go into full time service then the 458s will go on the PDL?

It's more just that the priorities for which route will get 701s. The 458/4s will probably be the last stock to be replaced by 701s, whereas initially the Windsor Lines were planned to get 701s early on.

Do you think maybe the 458/4s will be eventually used as a way of retiring some of the 455s once the 701s have covered the fleet spots which were operated by the 458/5s?

SWR could have really used with the 701s today of all days, not sure how they are going to cope later with Ascot and twickenham kicking out at the same time.

Doesn't look like there is many extra services floating about either

Reading line seems to have 4 tph today, that's double what it is normally!

Standard for ascot isn't it? I think there's gonna be a lot of services pulled from elsewhere later to crowdbust wembley, London stadium, ascot and twickenham

The Alton line has been diverted via Ascot towards London in the evening, and trains at Addlestone/Chertsey are being substituted by buses to Weybridge and Virginia Water.

Well indirectly they are. 701s will be used to replace 455s directly, but this will happen sooner than originally planned as the 458/4s will be running on Weybridge and Hounslow Loop services, whereas in the initial plan the 701s would have been deployed to these routes early on. Some of the 450s freed up by the 458/4 introduction in the short term will also be used to replace 455s.

The initial diagrams will still be focused largely on Windsor. 701s are also cleared to operate on the Hounslow Loop though. The next phase should see a service via Hounslow, potentially within the next few weeks. Shepperton is also likely to see them early on in the programme.

Progress!
If it is as currently being suggested although it will technically be progress, it won't really appear like it. Things should start moving with training soon though and then there will be some real progress.

Guessing the outer depots like woking farnham and guildford are still quite away from seeing them then?

Heard there were still a few issues with training which were found during the trial back early this month hence why it isn't ready to be commissioned. Hopefully that gets sorted soon

Hopefully they're minor tweaks which don't need another trial, review and further tweaks!

701060 has been out and about all week. It has gone past my living room window at roughly the same time ever day (between 6-7pm). If I didnt know any better, I would have said it was in normal service.

Days like today are exactly why we need the 455s to be retired and replaced by the 701s more than ever. They're borderline unusable in the heat (especially for those with medical conditions), made worse by the fact it seems to get worse every year and lasts longer. Even other members of the fleet don't have particularly good reliability when it comes to cooling.

Aventra AC is known to be some of the most effective on the market so hopefully the wait will be worth it, although there's still no denying we should have got this many years ago...
I do wonder how many more summers South Western commuters will have to put up with this for.

Our friend 701043 back on duty this morning. Did 036 fail yesterday?
Was on board 701036 yesterday both for one of the earlier services and the last. The only thing I can report is when leaving Putney, it seemed to suddenly come to a halt and then have trouble moving, going very slowly to the next station, so I'm not sure if there was some sort of fault there.

From some of the positive comments here, it seems these trains appear pretty reliable for modern units, which makes it more frustrating they are not in service where they would actually be useful.
