KWVR Diesel Gala May 2011

Mk 1's were lovely and comfortable. Beer was plentyful and tasty. Loco's were handsome and noisy.

All in all, an excellent day.

The KWVR managed to recreate past times, even to the extent of being 'bowled out' - I alighted a Damems to catch 25059 only for a 47 to appear, just like the old days! Seriously though, hope that the 25 is fixed easily and not a serious failure.

Had one or two comments from people I know who were surprised (and pleased) to see this forum had sponsored the printing of the event programmes. Have we anyone who has read this as a result of visiting the forum after seeing us mentioned in the programme?

I got misty eyed when the 47's turned up - mainly because they're the only classic diesel loco's I've had the pleasure of travelling behind in active day to day service (the loco's in active service not me )

I work in pway and was there till 16:00 when did 25029 fail?

I went yesterday , but couldnt stay long - I was there 3 hours - but I enjoyed it, I dont normally go on the saturday - it was good as there didnt appear to be the usual "idiots" spoiling it for everybody else.


The 56 and 20 get my votes for stars of the show but the 47 looked and sounded good

An excellent gala once again. Attended all 3 days at some point. Friday was out for the last round trip on the evening beer-ex. Saturday got there in the late afternoon have the sulzer pair of 47715 & 25279. Enjoyed 56311 which in tandem with 37350 was hellfire, then spent rest of the night on 37350. Then Sunday was there from 0910 off Keighley which saw me have D0226 the full length of the line for the 1st time, before having a relaxing few hours with the sulzers 25279, 47715 and 47580.

Something that was confusing me is the sheer number of duff bashers. The duff-hauled trains were very well loaded, and people appeared to be flagging EE locos to ride behind duffs. It's all very disorienting for an old-timer like me with my customary anti-duff prejudice. I'm thinking of setting up some sort of hotline so that these poor souls can get help. It's bound to be popular and people will have to expect to be on hold, but don't worry, the hold music will be D6700 going up Ingrow.

TBF the way the K&WVR organised the locos it made it very easy to avoid duffs if they're not you bag.

Each to their own I say. Not just the worth valley, but afew lines tend to have one set EE and the other sulzer.

I know afew who like one or the other, and make allowances for the other. But then there are some who wont touch the other, like on saturday when 37350, with 25059 d.i.t. topped D7529 on a service to get the 25059 back to haworth, one guy stormed out of oxenhope station looking for a bus just avoid the 37.

My post was tongue in cheek, but then there are people who hold extreme views on the subject! Rather have a bus than a 37? Good lord! I have no Sulzer aversion (love 24-27 and 33), but peaks and duffs just bore the pants off me. It's a childhood thing: too many trips simply ruined by them, especially duffs.
