As you might know, East coast's direct services to london, from lincoln have came into operation. With very cheap fares. On trheir website ive been seign advances for as low as £6 standard and £17 for first. Not bad considering this was a 7:00 peak train. Pretty good prices eh?

Just as a note these where railcard fares. but still a tenner to london aint bad, its about a fiver to nottingham :)

Not really that surprising, EC need to generate interest and solidify it's market, the best way to do that is is cheap fares and publicity. If the service takes off then I would expect over the next few months that the number of lowest tier advances starts to decrease and eventually I wouldn't be surprised if it vanishes all together.

Still for the time being that is an absolute bargain!

I've got a £24 first class single on the first Friday in July which in theory includes food and alcohol!

The EMT service is a Meridian

I suppose its possible you could see some HST's now, I imagine the main problem was that a HST is almost as long as the station at lincoln. I d0ont know if the service is a stopper after nottingham, but I think EMT will try and make it a faster service to compete against the new EC services.

As the 18:30 Kings Cross to Edinburgh on Sunday's no longer calls at Stevenage, I had to use the 19:08 Kings Cross to Lincoln service last night which considering it was the first East Coast service to Lincoln was quite busy.

Not sure if it was full mainly of Peterborough commuters but it was busy enough for a inbound service from Lincoln to be introduced on Sundays which I hope East Coast will consider.

I was on it too all the way to Lincoln, Alot got off at Newark and there was still quite alot on for Lincoln. I can see this service being a popular one.

I'm not sure that they will. That service never really targeted the London - Lincoln market but was instead aimed at providing valuable capacity between Lincoln - Nottingham before then forming a normal Nottingham - London service. Besides even if they wanted to I think they would struggle to shave 44 minutes off the current time (EC takes 2hr 8min EMT 2hr 52min).

I think I will have to catch a meridian to nottingham then next time i go home. a Lincoln => mansfield ticket should still be valid right?

I think the platform at Lincoln can only take 6 cars, maybe 7 at a push. But the "Humber lincs" didn't fit onto the platform at Lincoln Central and the HSTs were only 2+8 back then. Only 2 coaches fitted at Market Rasen. If I recall the HST used to block the crossing at St Marks.

Did wonder about using the EMT hst for Lincoln services, probably long enough for capacity but not good for east coasts image considering it is an EMT station.

Hopefully this will prove the business case for Lincoln to get more direct services to London. It's a big city in an area with rather poor rail services, so you've got a huge potential market. Hopefully someone will see this and expand the services.

Yes.
The promotional Standard Return and First Return fares apply only for 12 weeks from today. I expect that the promotional Advances will apply in the same time period.

I must admit the Modern Railways article about Lincoln was very interesting. Is the new timetable better overall? One direct train per day is fine if the times suit, but because the stopper from KX now terminates at Newark this has caused problems for the EMT Lincoln service, Ie the 1433 Newark - grimsby now starts at Lincoln as the platform is blocked at Newark by the HST. Others leave Newark just before the terminator shows up to give long gaps in the afternoon. Used to use the 1750? Now you must use the 1730....

Although, An EMT HST with EC service and food.... Sounds like my idea of the perfect train

I travelled down to London on the first day of the service, and was surprised by the number of people boarding at Lincoln. I picked up a copy of the local paper the next day and discovered that they'd done £1 promotional tickets :)

The good thing about the promotional fares, is at least the service gets the publicity it deserves. The people I spoke to, and overheard being interviewed for the local press seemed universally approving. Let's hope this continues, as it's great finally having a direct link to London.

As for the Newark terminators, I used the 1608 back from London - also a busy train, mostly with people for Stevenage, Peterborough and Grantham. The fact that these block the platform for terminating EMT trains (at times) is a little frustrating, as it leads to worse Lincoln to London connections during the day. The options being less frequent connections at Peterborough, or a walk from Newark Castle!

You must have shifted quick to get from the University flyover to the station bridge. How long does the HST have at Lincoln before going ECS to Neville Hill?

Back to the subject of fares, however - I was passing through Lincoln the other day, and I noticed what appeared to be a poster advertising EMT fares to London. Has anyone else noticed this?

I did go pretty quick, and It doesnt stay in lincoln long. Literally as soon as I took the photos at the station it started moving off. say 10-15 mins there tops?

EMT run a service to london via nottingham, and its an emt station, so thats why there is lots of advertising. The EMT service is mainly a way to get a meridian running Lincoln => nottingham

Very nice photographs Yew. I still maintain the belief that you can photograph with your Iphone. The quality of the camera is excellent.

Its just a shame they couldnt have fitted anything more lensish onto the iphone. I think I might have to look at investing in a camera some time (after a guitar, kayak, computer graphics card, its on the list:))

The Graphics Card will really hurt the bank balance, I'll be honest. And it's the same for me, buying a camera is at the very, very bottom of my list; there are about six hundred different add ons I want for Railworks!

Not necessarily if you shop around a bit you can get a powerful mid-range card for around £150. If you sacrifice a bit of performance you can still pick up some very good cards for around £100. I mean okay that's still quite a bundle of cash but still shouldn't take someone that long to save up for.
