Ones that aren't. On days like today, I need something to cheer me up and rubbish ads usually do. To be honest, ones that are can be just as irrelevant. I have a few loyalty supermarket cards but they still suggest the completely irrelevant.

Personally I prefer relevant ones but not ones that are annoying.

Recently I saw a sponsored post on Facebook for a concert at G Live that I thought had sold out. Obviously had some returns. I got a ticket. That's useful and relevant. I would like more of that more widely.

I also like ones for products or similar products to something I have just purchased because they are wasting their time on me so irrelevant but at least it's something I now own.

If I switch on my virtual private network [VPN] and point it to a other country, YouTube gives me ads from that country. That's nice as they are wasted on me.

The most annoying ads seem to be on the radio and that is usually the main reason I switch off LBC. Nothing against adverts on the radio, just that many are annoying and those that try to be funny usually are not, which makes them even more annoying. Only exception I can think of is a Chas 'n' Dave advert for some van related company. Now that was funny and even sent up the company by saying they would leave you high and dry. It was very Chas 'n' Dave and for me worked. Not that I can drive, so kind of irrelevant but enjoyable.

That is interestting but nothing on there about sex to determine if tampax ads are relevant to someone like myself. They aren't.

That reminds me. For a time I kept seeing TilTok and Temu ads on YouTube. They had introduced a feature where you could tell YouTube to ignore ads but every time I'd select don't show this ad again, they would show a different ad for the same brand.

If I don't want to see one advert from a company, I'm unlikely to want to see another. Other times for se ads the option to ignore wouldn't even show up.

That actually put me off both companies.

They also introduxe a feature where you could say show less ads of a perticular category. For example less motor vehcile ads. Despite doing this I would still see ads in the categories I said show less of. So that function was kind of irrelevant and pointless itseemed.

I'm getting Nike adverts. This isn't necessarily bad based on my demographic, until you see my own fashion sense, which has never heard of Nike except as some vague mythological figure (I don't do Classics)

It seems far more insistent than any other adverts I've had as well. Perhaps it thinks it's twigged me.

I just got this advert on the top of the forum page. Image attached including close ups. Some very nice looking items … and an Ian Beale calendar, and a motorbike! How random…. No idea what the retailer is as I never click ads

The Facebook thing is an interesting malfunction I've had pop up from time to time. Every now and then it would offer me the personal accounts of celebrities as people I might know and allow me to click on them and view their profile. I've no reason to know either Lewis Hamilton or Bamber Gascoigne! They were real accounts set to hidden too - I couldn't find them using the search bar when I tried and yet click on them via these "people you may know" boxes and I could read their wall and everything.

This is the first celebrity recommendation I've noticed, it's odd because aside from being someone I have a strong dislike for, the recommendation of Farage seems utterly random based on my Facebook activity.

I only really use Facebook for groups these days, I'm a member of around 20, none of which are political, the majority of them are Sci-Fi related so an actor or author would make a degree of sense but not a politician of any hue.

I don't think I've mentioned this before (did a quick search and it came up with no results, so I presume not).

I'm fairly sure I got what appeared to be a targeted mail from the Tory Party before, which I am no fan of.

It's possible of course that they sent out individually addressed letters to everyone, I guess.

Fortunately not.

That was someone who was representative of the majority of the FB friend recommendations I get, ie someone who isn't famous, who I don't know and who I've never interacted with in any groups I'm a member of as far as I'm aware - basically someone the FB algorithm has just picked at random.

That's not very effective advertising, unless they're trying to drive you away!
