I'd say its even more noticeable in the school holidays how easy walking is with fewer cars on the roads taking kids to school.

Again it comes down to a small shift has a much more noticeable impact on how easy it is to get about.

If you have to wait 10 cars to cross the road normally, if you have 1 less car from that group of 10, then chances are you only have to wait for 5 to 7 cars to be able to cross the road (as there's a good chance you could cross in the gap that car previously occupied rather than having to wait for nine cars to pass to be able to cross).

The same applies for car drivers wishing to exit a side road.

It's why everyone should desire roads to be less well used by cars as however they get about their journeys would be easier.

Though I note that the London ULEZ extension caused a mass throwing of toys from prams whereas the Clean Air Zones in many other cities have gone almost unnoticed.
The proposed congestion charge in Manchester did the same thing, as did the guided busway along the East Lancs road because it reallocated road space from cars to buses.

As previously mentioned, the Manchester clean air zone scheme was abandoned literally the day before it was to come into force.

And that was the second attempt at introducing something like it, the first attempt (a congestion charge) was defeated in a referendum by a huge margin.

Have you got a source that says that it was "abandoned" rather than merely delayed?

Incidentally I came across this while looking:
The researchers said the introduction of the Lez helped to reduce particulate matter (PM10) in Greater London by 13% between 2008 and 2013, compared to between 2003 and 2007.

Nitrogen dioxide levels had also fallen by 18.4% in 2019 following the launch of Ulez in central London, compared to the period between 2016 and 2018, according to the analysis.
So it does work.

This website suggests it was finally axed in 2022.
But following the pandemic, government agreed that this charging Clean Air Zone would NOT be introduced on 30 May 2022.

Well that is one interpretation of the data, correcting for confounding factors is extremely difficult.
And there have been some controversies about that and similar studies, including accusations of academic bullying.
