204 men and boys killed in the Hartley colliery disaster of 1862 are buried in the churchyard of St Alban's, Earsdon. An even more catastrophic disaster was that which took place at the Universal Colliery in Senghenydd, Glamorgan, in 1913, killing 439.

Port Sunlight was built by the soap magnate William Lever; he also purchased the estate of South Harris in the Western Isles and renamed the village of Obbe as Leverburgh, hoping to transform it into a fishing port to supply his Macfisheries chain of fish shops.

There are a number of settlements in Scotland called Tarbert or Tarbet -- strongly tending to be in the historically, or still-, Gaelic-speaking west of the country: the name coming from the Gaelic tairbeart = isthmus. Places with the name, will generally be located at an isthmus-point: as is the case with the Harris one above; and with Tarbet, Argyll & Bute -- on the narrow neck of land between Loch Long (arm of the Clyde estuary) and the inland Loch Lomond.

Burwell has a youth football club called the Burwell Swallows. The football club (adults, I gather) of St. Monans, Fife (East Neuk thereof) is likewise called the St. Monans Swallows.

That’s my new word / bit of geography learned today
Cellardyke in Fife also lies on the route of the long distance footpath known as the Fife Coastal Path.
Stagecoach East Scotland’s bus service 95 passes through Cellardyke on its route between Leven and St Andrews

Stupid quoting mechanism on this site ! -- for me, it can very easily go highly wrong.

@Springs Branch writes, re East Neuk of Fife: "That's my new word / bit of geography learnt today".

I learnt of the East Neuk, from being a fan of the thrillers of Val McDermid: who herself comes from roughly those parts; as does her heroine DCI Karen Pirie -- who also does her detecting stuff in that general part of Scotland.

Sedgefield in Co. Durham also has a racecourse.

Worcester also has a namesake settlement in the Western Cape area of South Africa. Sedgefield in the Western Cape, is so named because its "founding father" was the 19th-century politician and industrialist Henry Barrington, who was born in the Co. Durham Sedgefield.

Maidstone has a museum of horse-drawn carriages; as has Arlington, North Devon -- located between Barnstaple and Lynton, but not on the course of a certain one-time public-transport route  .

Parracombe's St Petrock's Church is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust, as is All Saints' Church in Leicester.

The glass doors giving entrance to St. Andrew's parish church, Corbridge, were given by the comedian and actor Rowan Atkinson; who was born not very far away, at Consett, County Durham.

Music hall star Harry Relph (1867-1928), better known as Little Tich, was born in Cudham; he died aged sixty at his home in Hendon, NW London, of a stroke possibly brought on by complications from an on-stage accident he suffered the previous year.
