Meanwhile Network Rail have submitted plans for a compound near Ravensthorpe station.

Been there well over a month now, all set-up, access through old power station, they cut a lot of trees down too, on the old power station tipping ground beside the present line running from Dewsbury, where they have plans to build the "Baker Viaduct".

This is a new one, opposite the farm on Lees Hall Road, near Lees Hall itself.

Went for a look at Batley the other day. Bridge done, but left half finished, left to the weeds, and not even finished the tarmac.PXL_20230825_133235089.jpgPXL_20230825_133554671.jpgPXL_20230825_133006122.jpgPXL_20230825_132814338.jpgPXL_20230825_132718916.jpgPXL_20230825_132948708.jpg

Was looking at the timetables on the northern website and this was on the site for the early morning services from the 26th to the 29th of september, what are they doing overnight on the Victoria to stalybridge line thought the overheads on that line had been done?

It's probably final works to allow the overheads to be switched on at the Stalybridge end, such as installing jumpers in overlaps/at crossovers, cutting in Section Insulators, any earthing/bonding work etc.

Cannot find anything for the guide bridge line unless they're doing the works this weekend coming, will the overheads been switched on all together or in parts?

ALL work around the Batley to Hudderfield area has seen nothing done in 3 weeks, just all stopped, nothing appears to happen on the days/nights at weekends, when the line is closed to Huddersfield. Like everyone abandoned ship, very strange, I can see from my house if anything happenes near Ravensthorpe station, nothing now for weeks.

Wasn't there a stand-down of works on TRU West quite recently?

Still registration adjustments and wiring at Guide Bridge, commissioning of Guide Bridge TSC, short circuit testing at Countess St, telecoms testing (VLVT - Voltage Longitudinal Voltage Transverse), dynamic test train.
Entry into service is expected on/before 19/02/2024.

Just tried asking security onsite as to why no work, the guy said he knew nothing, but they might be on a safety course and might be back next week. So we'll have to wait and see.

Indeed, something about there being too many near-misses/close-calls and the like.
Highly understandable then!
The above was the same as I was told too many safety issues so all work suspended till they come up with something new safety wise after a review.

So will emus be using the wires in the may timetable change or before the 19/02/2024?
Noticed the trains to hadfield on the sunday 24th september are replacement buses has that got something to do with the wires or something completely different.

Might well be something to do with the wires - perhaps the new Guide Bridge TSC goes live then? That'll require a complete block to electric traction in the affected section (which, AIUI, starts at Ardwick).

So there is a TSC at Stalybridge as well as the grid feeder at Heyrod and a long extension lead to Ordsall Lane?
Yes, it's normal to have a TSC at a Y-shaped junction, so that either line route be isolated and worked on while electric trains can continue to run on the other.

In this case I would have expected it to be a bit further east, which was why I asked the question in #7129.

Makes sense. Thanks.

Yes indeed as it’s a junction just as there is at Guide Bridge. No different to the ones installed at Ordsall Lane and Lostock Junctions

Are we not expecting the 769s and 802s to begin using the wires from the day they are energised, without having to wait for a timetable change?

Probably need testing first before anything can use them.
Commissioned would have been a better choice of words than energised, but unless this happens before December I don’t expect it to coincide with a timetable change.

Entry into service is for passenger (or freight) use, following Office of Road & Rail authorisation.
It is possible to be earlier than 19/02 if all the testing & commissioning is complete and ORR authorised provided.

  • 769s to Stalybridge will use OLE from EIS day 1.
  • 802s which stop at Stalybridge will also use OLE from EIS day 1.
  • APCO is installed on both Ashton and Guide Bridge lines, so express TPE 802 services should be able to use OLE from EIS day 1.
Any particular reason why there?
Thats the location of Stalybridge TSC
Yes, specifically the location of the DNO (distribution network operator) cubicles. That will complete commissioning for the tie in on the Guide Bridge line.
*APCO= Automatic Power Changeover
*EIS= Entry into service

The DNO for Stalybridge TSC is already in and live
