- DRS already has 10 Class 88s (317kN tractive effort; 4000kW on the wires; 700kW off).
- ROG has taken delivery of the first class 93, with 30 on order or under option (290kN; 4600kW & 1300kW)
- GBRF has ordered 30 Class 99s (500kN; 6000kW & 1600kW)
The 88's are being used for intermodals on the WCML, like Daventry to Mossend, because their low power off the wires makes them unsuitable for much else. But the 93's and especially the 99's will be much more capable. So my question is what freight flows will these be used on?
I'm asking because it makes a difference to electrification priorities. OHLE is justified on lines carrying more than around 4-6tph. Where will the 93's and 99's end up, and will they be sufficiently frequent to tip the balance in favour of electrification?
