197004, 197006 and 197012 all erroneously closed their doors immediately after releasing them when I rode yesterday and today, several times in a row, and almost shutting on the many people trying to alight. 175109 though, that I took from Cwmbran, was flawless.

Blimey, so even the ones actually in service arent doing great.

At least the 197s can work the majority of the services in North Wales (aside from those linked to Cambrian but they can still be swapped)
Yes - but they need to hurry to get the 3 coach 197/1s into service. 2 coaches are inadequate for many services, and there are currently insufficient to make everything into 4 coach formations.

I'm still waiting for the 3 car units with first class to be introduced so I can try a weekend upgrade on one. Apparently one unit has been built, but I am curious which seat will be used for first, and if it will be cab ends only or half a coach.

Cant see any 2 car 175s out today. Looks like the most common 2 car to be in service 009 is having a rest!

Can see 5 of the 3 cars in service - 102 and 109 on Holyhead-Cardiff, 107 and 108 on West Wales-Cardiff/Manchester and 110 on Llandudno-Manchester Airport.

107 is only doing the Cardiff Carmarthen part of 0930 Manchester Cardiff. It’s the second swap of the journey.

153320+921 worked it to Shrewsbury, 153333+910 took over from Shrewsbury working to Cardiff and now 175107 will take over at Cardiff for the West Wales stretch, presumably because they don’t want it going far from Canton.

If they're anything like the 195s, that's a staff training issue rather than unit fault.

There are no 2 cars out today. Do you mean 102, 103 and 104?

I saw a post over on FB that some 175s might be going to supplement Northern services - is there something in this or just FB wibble?

Yes I heard that as TFW brought 150269, 150270. 150137, 150139, 150141 moved to WMR Bletchley Bedford line

At the moment nobody who knows for certain is in a position to say so publicly on social media, so until there's an official announcement I'd take anything with a pinch of salt.

There are 40 pages of speculation here:

They are not going to Northern.

Amongst the conversation on the thread about Northern lending 150s to TfW it is made clear that the 175s would be better coming out of service sooner rather than later.

It should not be forgotten that all of this is the consequence of TfW decisions (and to a lesser extent the Welsh Government itself for not deciding on investment in a new maintenance site for the 197s).

As much as it pains me to say it, I think the 175s might be better seeing out their days in South Wales and leaving the main lines to 150s so that at least there wont be a repeat of the Bridgend blockage. Be great if there was a way to get double 150s onto the busiest trains, or perhaps over the busiest sections. It just feels like some minds being focused on 197s instead of firefighting 175s might be best.

Wait until all the Valleys lines reopen in the next week or two. It will be interesting to see how stretched the fleet will be then.

Merthyr and Aberdare have also been closed. Not sure how many 150s that has freed up. 2 or 3 maybe.

Looks like a different 2 car 175 is out today - 175010 doing a Cardiff to Milford Haven this afternoon.

Otherwise, there are about 6 of the 3 car 175s in service today.

Most are on Manchester-West Wales, one seems to be doing the 1249 Cardiff-Manchester etc and another is on the Crewe to Shrewsbury stopper.

Interesting, thought 010 was stood down.

It had been so obviously a change of heart with it. With 001 heading to Holyhead the other day possibly swapped them over to keep 2 active.
Fairly sure it hadn't been used since the fleet was originally pulled.

Was it one of the 175s officially withdrawn? Or just stood down waiting repairs? Perhaps things are so bad some of the withdrawn 175s have been reinstated temporarily as they are just in Landore, havent actually left TFW yet officially?

009 was used almost daily in recent times but has now disappeared in the last few days.
