Are any RailUK Forum members currently - or later in the day - joining me at the K&WVR Diesel Gala? I'm currently in the second coach from the North End of the 6RMB set with 37 075 running round at Oxenhope.
I spotted you on the Ingrow webcam earlier!

Fame at last! Big brother's watching me. Was I doing anything that I shouldn't have been ....such as videoing a class 37; chatting-up another woman or doing drugs?
One of those three...

"Rodz Day" on the KWVR today. The visiting Teddy Bear is running all day, double heading with an assortment of Gronks on some of the turns.

Notes:

Teddy Bear = Class 14
Gronk = Shunter
The branding of the ‘Rodz’ day really annoyed me for some reason - think it was the Spelling with the Z.

On a note more worthy of discussion, I’ve only ever heard the term Gronk refer to 08s and 09s. Does it apply to any small shunter?

So you are asking whether a Flower Pot is also a Gronk?

I think that I would apply the term to all shunting locos, but others may take a different approach.

Note: Flower Pot = Class 03 (due to the shape of the chimney on some of them)

In a way yes - but given it’s the KWVR I was mainly thinking of their fleet - D0226 Vulcan, the Hunslet LMS 7050 etc.

I went yesterday (Saturday), not expecting it to be as enjoyable as last year, because the second visit is never as good as the first! But I wasn't expecting this. Not exactly a repeat of the SVR gala in May, more like highlights. I did, however, manage to get a run behind those ghostly grey HST power cars which I never did at the SVR, for what it was Worth (see what I did there?).

Personally, I think that using the aircon set (this time with an additional catering vehicle) as one of the primary trains was a big mistake. Loco-hauled stock with air-conditioning was never intended to be used on a short branch line where the loco was uncoupled at each end. I overheard the comment that the SVR had the sense to keep 47 712 coupled at all times in order to maintain hotel power. More than once it was announced over the PA that the buffet was staffed by a newlywed couple - presumably, in their nuptial bliss, they didn't mind working in a sweatbox all day long.

Shunter bashing has never really been for me, so what was left? It was essentially a 37 fest with a 20 thrown in. As much as I like 37s this was overdoing it!

But it was very busy, which at the end of the day is what matters most I guess. If this is the future of diesel galas then I'll just have to admit that I'm too old for this gig . . .

Yes a bit too 37 heavy in the end but oh well. Some decent runs behind them and I think I enjoyed the 14 the most.
The two day rover was good value even if I missed a couple of departures on Sunday due to it taking a while to get to Keighley from York by train.

I agree....and not only because the 14 was the only loco on the roster that I required for haulage. Some of my KWVR volunteer friends where rather sceptical about its capability - saying that it had a habit of sitting down en route during hot weather and requiring a lengthy wait to cool down. However, on the Saturday afternoon run up to Oxenhope - in pretty hot, humid weather - she performed faultlessly with load 6 mark 1s and I even had the impression that her initial acceleration was better than that of the 37s (apologies to @xotGD !). The difference between hydraulic and electric transmission perhaps?

Agree with all of the above.
Love 37s but you can have too much of a good thing.
None of the 37s were especially rare, so other than the opportunity to line 3 scottish locos up for a photo, not quite sure what it achieved.
Maybe a Colas or Europheonix 37 may have been a bit more unusual and tempting (in my opinion), but guess they were unavailable or too expensive.

The 14 ran to Oxenhope on Saturday afternoon? That would have been when I was doing a pub crawl in Haworth. Oh well.

Never happy - too many of one loco type, wrong carriages, not enough locos, wrong sort of paint on the locos that do arrive, spelling on the flyers, too many shunters, wrong sort of shunters, too expensive, too busy ( even though it was crap and all the locos were wrong!)

You cant win!

I couldn't go but the pictures and vids i have seen look great

It certainly was good to me! Trains were rammed Saturday and Sunday too which is always good to see.

You’re almost guaranteed to sight at least one of the above on a walk down Derby London Road.

The Class 14 is out this morning on the KWVR. However, looking at the Haworth webcam it seems to have failed in the station.

Update - the 37 has come to the rescue.

The 14 is staying until at least the end of August I believe, I also don't believe it was a major failure.
