Forgive me if this question has been asked before but surely it would be in the best interests of the ROSCO to have the 379s stored adjacent to an electrified line and to take them out for a run every 2-3 weeks to keep everything in working order. Or is this just a pause before they are towed from Worksop to a scrapyard?37608 has taken 379002&016 [according to RailCam] from Ilford to Worksop today

I can tell you that 379028, 018, 015, 013, 001, 010 and 025 were at Harwich yesterday. There were 2 or 3 more but no way to identify them. 025 was “pan up” with reds at the rear.Does anybody have a list of where they all are ?

Aldersbrook carriage sidingsthe electrified sidings London side of Ilford (they have a name, but I don't know it)
I was able to ID two of those recently... see this post ( ignore the text in the preview - that's because the software picks out the first post on a page rather than the linked post ):When I passed through Ilford on 8th April, there were 4 lots of 8 car 379s stabled in the electrified sidings London side of Ilford (they have a name, but I don't know it) but couldn't get any numbers. Regarding the future of these units, originally it was reported that they could be sold to South Africa as Gautrain (I think is the name) already have Electrostars, which look rather different, but technically are similar, although this has not happened. Presumably they have some equipment at Worksop in order to plug the units in to an electrical supply in order to keep things working.
That would have entailed the very expensive provision of new bogies as South African Railways are 3 ft 6 ins gauge!Regarding the future of these units, originally it was reported that they could be sold to South Africa as Gautrain (I think is the name) already have Electrostars, which look rather different, but technically are similar, although this has not happened.
Aldersbrook carriage sidings
Sounds like the Ilford Worksop trips cleared out Aldersbrook. And none in there when I passed this morning.
why would they be scrapped - they are only 10/12 years old! Surely the storage location is simply somewhere large and secure enough to take them all
Bearing in mind that Worksop has also played host to plenty other stock which then got sent away to the scrappers, I would say anything is possible!I can’t see them scrapping the Class 379s especially if they’re going to the effort of moving them to said unnelectrified sidings rather than sending them straight to the scrapyard.
Gautrain is a dedicated standard gauge fast commuter service opened in 2012 using Electrostars. That would have entailed the very expensive provision of new bogies as South African Railways are 3 ft 6 ins gauge!
OK. Thanks very much. Every day's a school day!Gautrain is a dedicated standard gauge fast commuter service opened in 2012 using Electrostars.
They cost money to store and keep in something close to working order. They don't have much potential use beyond GB and the government doesn't currently seem to have much interest in leasing them. At some point, it may be logical for their current owner to dispose of them simply not to have the uncertainty and the work, because if they're really never going to be leased then they no longer have value as whole trains.
One might hope that they got sold on to someone at a knockdown, who could then afford to offer them to the network at a more competitive rate. But probably not worth holding your breath.
Happy to put a list out next week when i get back from holidays if there is enough interest.Does anybody have a list of where they all are ?
Yes please!Happy to put a list out next week when i get back from holidays if there is enough interest.
Those 379s that have gone to store at Worksop have been "prepared" at Ilford prior to despatch - does anyone know what this "preparation" entails ?
It has been reported on another site that 379018 + 379028 ran under their own power from Clacton to Warrington 25.04.23, obviously these seem not to have been "prepared" for store, so what is going on with this pair?
Defo ... it is a NEEDED list hereHappy to put a list out next week when i get back from holidays if there is enough interest.
