455870 15/12/22

455870 is in passenger service today (14/04) on 2J07 0636 London Waterloo to Hampton Court

One slightly unusual working this morning was 458535 + 458534 on 1A16 0641 Alton to London Waterloo
This is probably a hangover from yesterdays disruption

Hearing rumours that with the May timetable change more 707s will be pulled off the Shepperton line with them going all over the suburban network

Would certainly make a lot of sense for them to be on the busier diagrams than running them, say, in the down direction to Shepperton at 08:00...

My guess based on what I've seen is that the diagram starting with the 0701 Dorking-Waterloo goes over to 707. The rest of the day this works Hampton Court/ Guildford via Epsom.

They’ll have to start training more guards and drivers on them again as those routes are worked by many depots that don’t sign them… will be interesting to see

The May diagrams appear to have been altered to take account of the fact they will be 707.

Scrabbling around for 10 car trains on the busiest services. It's getting critical now with services getting busier.

That would be very welcome. I get on at Worcester Park and stopped using this service months ago because it was often rammed.

I'm surprised you managed to find an alternative along there that was much better!

With more 458s fixed and back into service I wonder if we’ll see a few more diagrams with them pop up. Either that or it’ll allow a few 450s to be released from the suburban services.

Probably the wrong thread but is there any chance of the 701s entering service any time soon? Surely a few heads need to "roll". Too many fleets are being withdrawn before their replacements are ready.

Check the 701 thread and you’ll see there’s no sign of any coming in service any time soon.

Excellent news, I need that one.

Does anyone know the status of 455722 and 455732 please?

5732 is having coach heights measured and adjusted after a wheelset change and some attention to cab cooling.

Looks like it ran into problems around Surbiton?

It was stuck behind a 2F stopper on the slow all the way back from what I saw watching it on OTT maps. It looked to always be on the move. The times shown on RTT miss a huge chunk between Woking and Hampton Court Junction which make it look worse. Genius shows 9L at Walton-on-Thames.

Ah that makes a lot of sense, good to know it wasn't a problem with the unit itself!

Every unit you post on this list seems to eventually make it back into service later, so what is the purpose of the absences? Exams I'm assuming.

Seems to be a game of chicken by SWR, unit needs an exam or out of hours, so they park it, then another one needs exam so insufficient units, so patch one up.

Problem is will get to point where it isn't a minor or intermediate exam and start to get lots stopped needing serious work which costs big money.

The real crunch will come mid September when holiday season ends and get to busiest time of the year and 8car trains won't cope Tuesday-Thursday

I’m not sure “won’t cope” is in the DfT’s lexicon any more is it? ‘We ran a train, the end’ seems more in line with current attitudes, who’s counting how many were left behind?! And precious little that TOCs can do about it.

5905 moved from outside to the lift shop last week, now in the main shed. Looks close to complete, I would imagine a return to service exam and main line test run are the next steps
