What timetable plans do railway operators have for King Charles III coronation on Saturday 6th May? Are any operators running enhanced or perhaps reduced timetables?

I can imagine flows on Saturday 6th will be very high into London in the morning and out of London in the late afternoon / evening. Elsewhere on the network I am guessing flows will be lower than a normal Saturday.

So far I haven’t heard or seen anything from any TOC, but if they were to put on extra services my bet is it would most likely be a repeat of what TOCs did for the Queens death.

It's not so much a question of what the TOCs are planning as what the RMT and ASLEF are...

Safe from Aslef at least as they are meeting again April 26th. The synic in me suggests RDG have done that on purpose as when they inevitably make no offer and walk away , the earliest strike date will be may 10th (after the coronation). It'll be peoples summer holidays ruined instead, but do the RDG really care about mere mortals?.

I suppose a strike could always be announce prior to the 26th though to add pressure to the negotiations.

I believe both unions have already stated they will not strike over that weekend.
I too would be very surprised if there was a strike on that weekend given they deliberately avoided striking after the queen’s death. While strikes I think are not intended to be popular with the public, they would be absolutely vilified in the press if they chose to strike on the weekend of Charles III’s coronation.

Generally a normal service on Saturday, and some extra services to/from Windsor for the concert on the Sunday.

Disruptive engineering works on routes into London on the Saturday have been postponed.

I wouldn't have thought the coronation itself would cause many more passengers to travel into London. @ChiefPlanner has toldb first hand stories of passenger numbers for Diana's funeral being a bit of a dam squib, despite it being a huge event for the country.

Across the course of the day I think this would be the case. However on a normal Saturday demand would be somewhat spread out. On the day of the coronation I can imagine there would be loads of people wanting to arrive into London between 7am and 10am but few during the rest of the day.

Like the weekday morning peak then (excluding Friday!)

You’ll have another large proportion of people who will also not venture down to London that day due to the anticipated crowds.

And much more recently, for the late Queen’s funeral, where passenger numbers were much reduced.

Never to be forgotten that ! - an 0300 start for not much results really (and after a massive planning excercise) - so I went home once the "Royal" to Long Buckby was safely off the patch and had a nap.

The normal Saturday service was more than enough , - not that anyone really travelled - the whole nation watched it on TV , bar the flower throwers along the M1 once the hearse passed.

For the late Queen’s funeral most shops and attractions were shut which meant there would have been far less travel to visit shops and attractions. If the same happens with the coronation, then I can’t really see much demand for travel for much of the day.

exactly. Although interestingly the Premier League still has a few fixtures that afternoon, as do the lower leagues in Scotland.

Can't see those lasting, given the latest news from the RMT...

Do Avanti have the resources to run additional trains?
This morning (Saturday) there are the usual Avanti cancellations north of Preston - I bet Avanti will just try and run the service they should normally be offering, and that would be quite an achievement! :D
