Does anyone know whether the 17:14 Cardiff to Holyhead is likely to be a loco-hauled set tonight please? It looks like the earlier service from Holyhead that usually uses the same set has been cancelled due to a problem with the train. Thanks in advance.

Would that be an on the day upgrade or in advance?

Any idea roughly what it would be for a Cardiff to Manchester run?
The BRFares website contains the upgrade prices and in my experience these are correct and what's quoted on the TFW website is not! BRFares says £26 for Cardiff to Manchester.

Potentially if HD02 is sorted during the day it will be but there's not a high chance at the moment.

Mega yikes to those huge delays last night, I see I'd have been on the 1634 from Holyhead at some point as well. Very much counting my lucky stars and grateful to the divine intervention for going to Derbyshire instead of North Wales!

I've been going to post on this thread some positivity since Saturday morning, it's been a bit of a crazy week. Anyway, last Saturday I had the privilege of getting a MK4 set on the 0953 from Hereford, and I took full advantage of the opportunity to upgrade to First Class. It was an ex-GC set, and so I had the really nice First Class to enjoy. I took a single seat facing another on the right, and enjoyed the views all the way. Having got back from the USA the day before, I had a new appreciation of the UK, and the beauty of Herefordshire and Shropshire was most enjoyable.

I also took advantage of a meal on board, the first one in months. Excellent comfort levels were enjoyed, timekeeping was near enough spot-on all the way and on-board crews were all very good. I thoroughly enjoyed my journey, by a long way the best I've had on TfW in a long time!

I also took 67020 on an ex-LNER set out of Manchester on the 1630 to Swansea, having walked over from Salford Crescent in just 22 minutes (no easy feat with Saturday crowds!) but bailed at Crewe to do other things. I didn't try the ex-LNER First Class, I could have done looking at it but I had decided to change plans on the approach to Crewe. Perhaps if I'd upgraded to First on the way out of Manchester I'd have stayed on!

What do I think of the black livery on 67020, now I've seen it a bit better? I'm not a big fan, it looks a bit out of place somehow. Perhaps if it was black all over with some red swooshes or a thick red stripe, it might then look better. Maybe if the MK4s were also in black it would look better, but enough livery discussion!

Anyway, some photos!

Yes that's correct Then it drops in £5 blocks as the journey gets shorter ie. 21 from Crewe and 16 from Shrewsbury.

HD06 (I THINK) is parked up at Crewe with 67022.
The wag tonight was a 175/1.
The Manchester diagram tonight is running.

2 are planned out tomorrow (and have been for several days)

Tomorrow should see 1V33 1W91 1W93 1W96 1V96 1V98 as locos then on Friday all 3 diagrams should run but 1V33 is planned as a unit to balance sets.

There's only 3 Monday-Friday and 2 Saturday diagrams (from today) which are currently Mk4s, 2 of the Monday-Friday diagrams were Mk4 anyway and with the split at Cardiff using 1 extra diagram, effectively Mk4s aren't currently freeing up a single unit compared to pre-December.
Do we have a diagram of when the mk4's (presumably with 1st class) are running m-f?
I'm planning a trip in May currently....

Helpful, thanks. I'm assuming if this is up until May, we could see adjustments after that?

Between 23rd May and 6th June it'll gradually increase until every other Manchester is one.

That's If unit availability improves, it's been absolutely awful the last few weeks with 1 out most days (and looks that way tomorrow too)

Thank you, I'll keep my fingers crossed then. The aim is to avoid the 2 carriage carnage if at all possible.

Shrewsbury (or sometimes Shropshire). It's an old name.
If you fancy a giggle Google Salop and read about the Parliamentary cock-up which left that term legally the county name for almost 20 years from the 1970s.....

What on earth is happening to the mark 4 trains?, 1v37 fast train this morning 08.30 from Manchester - Cardiff train departed 6 late and arrived at Shrewsbury 36 late. Is it a problem with the stock/engine/track/or train crew?.

According to JourneyCheck, a fault with the signalling system! Unlikely to be the sets themselves.

Signal problems at Newport, bridge bash at Chedle Hulme, following a local from Crewe to Shrewsbury..... nothing t9 do with the sets.

HD02 is re-entering service today should be on a different diagram on 1W57 from.Cardiff

No, happened for several weeks now. Couldn't remember how long but according to my own post #2158 the Saturday diagrams began on 18th Feb and its run most weeks since (last week was the exception)
