Was it always the plan to revert back to just the ‘traditional’ mark 4 services to and from Holyhead after the Manchesters were introduced, or is this an interim measure?

No it wasn't originally planned.

One diagram is to cover for the Missing HD08 which if it comes will allow the 6th diagram to be re-introduced. There also needs to be some slack built in for 5th car additions, refurbishment and repaints etc especially on 01-03.

The other diagram, which from May just does 06:27 from Manchester to Cardiff then 17:14 Cardiff to Holyhead is to allow a set to spend a day on Canton to allow depot training, due to very rarely having sets on Canton this is a bit of a necessary evil to get training finished.

As it stands the plan is for September to go back to all existing Holyheads plus the Manchester but unless training is pretty much complete at Cardiff, HD08 is ready and all sets are the finished article (and much more reliable) then it could well be pushed back or never happen.

Yes but no.
It is part of two separate diagrams, interworking with the Manchester workings.
Fair enough. When I travelled on both trains in February it was the same loco/set in and out, but post #2,312 explains very clearly what should be happening from the May timetable change.

One side effect of the ongoing signalling problems at Crewe precluding through running from South Wales to Manchester is that the MKIVs are ending up on the wrong diagram. Both yesterday and today they've ended up on the 1330 Manchester - Tenby (starting from Crewe, and obviously not running all the way to Tenby without a set swap either).

I guess the issue with the Mk4's is they are too long for the bay platforms 7/8 at Crewe so would need to block 11/12 for longer if kept in diagram which are through platforms.

Indeed, it's not easy finding somewhere to dump it for nearly 2 hours. They'll fit in 7 but LNWR need that for their Euston service. Also means you don't have to find space for two trains all the time, it's much simpler to just step up the diagrams every hour - so long as you have loco competent crew on hand to work the train affected trains.

Which subsequently failed at Shrewsbury due to no lighting in standard.

Brakes are locked on the loco. Loco due to arrive as 1Z99 anytime now.
W65 was also caped at Salop at 2200 due to a Speedo failure.
Not a good night!

Is that why I saw a rail replacement coach outside Hereford station a little after 9pm? Wow I lucked out, I'd have been caught out in those issues if I'd gone to North Wales as per one of my plans for the day

Yikes! I was going to say I hope everyone is off and not stuck on the train, then I saw the below post.

Could be a long night for some!

What has me puzzles is RTT records lsl to have 2 class 47s at Hereford going to Crewe could these not be used to rescue the 67

You'd hope tfw, if it'll be there a while might allow people to have food brought to the station.

RTT records it as having made its allotted diagram onto Canton depot so what actually happened? Anyone know?
Does show that but it certainly didn't, it didn't arrive into Cardiff until 0305, 335mins late.

After a period of mostly covering all 3 diagrams last night was an utter disaster. Even the one set that did make it was over an hour late as had to have a loco change between arriving on 1V96 and leaving on w96.

As it stands HD01 and HD06 are out of use waiting tyre turning, HD02 Is running out of miles until it needs to go on the lathe, HD03 Is still at Landore for SDO, HD07 is at Canton waiting to take 03s slot at Landore for 5th car so there's only 3 sets to cover the 3 diagrams.
