Question regarding 730s working Euston - Crewe services...

Most of the Euston - Crewe are worked by double 4 car 350s, so 8 car length in total, if the 730s are to work some of these services, is the plan to double them up and run 10 car trains or run them as single 5 car sets? Either way, there will be an effect on capacity.

Not had a definitive answer from fleet but double sets look to be the plan, though I'd imagine we will see some single sets similar to the 350s used now. So overall should be an uplift in capacity.

Newer units heading down a week Monday, 013,014,015,016 and 018 are coming down for the start of driver training.

Will they? The 2+2 interior is basically the same as the 350 interior.

I mean from an operational point of view, though the layout it better in terms of first class not being in the middle (or not there at all on WMR units) and the open non-seated spaces it will feel quite different. We shall see soon enough

Considering first class seems to use the same seats as standard class in the 197s, and not the standard 80X sophia (from a quick look through the windows at a time of decent light on the approach into crewe) the first class should at least be better than the awful compin seats in the 350s with the ridiculously high armrests.

Standard also seems to be quite nice, I'm a very big fan of the Kiel seats in the 720s, and imagine that these seats combined with a 2x2 layout will probably end up being the best aventra's comfort-wise.

I just hope the units are worth the (currently) over 5 year wait!

Is 2+2 seating set in stone for the 5 car 730s, or could it go back to 3+2? If trains are very busy this year it might cause them to reconsider. I hope I am wrong but 2+2 seating and tables seems to good to be true. I would not be at all surpised if they go back to 3+2 seating for the LNWR 730s.

It would be a really, really bad idea. If they want higher capacity, narrow 2+2 for more standing as per the WM units and indeed some of the 319s is the way to go. The 700 proved that this works (even with 2" spacers) and so 3+2 really needs to go in the bin.
