VT should get 50033 overhauled to mainline standards as an alternative to the 47, quite capable of shifting a heavy load and providing ETH

If you’re prepared to organise it, let me know where to send the cheque.

What if they want to use their assets in the other 6 days of a week between March and November and make more money for the charity, such that it can reinvest? Silly silly.

Vintage were in a good position to make plenty of additional money for the charity several years ago and were indeed doing so by branching out into hiring out traincrew and suchlike, before a change of leadership knocked it all on the head. So it seems that making money is not particularly high up the list of priorities.

Amazingly, almost nobody wants to go for a day trip to Llandudno or whatever with 47773. In fact, most people would actively seek to avoid it!

Funny that, I distinctly remember a day trip to Scarborough a couple of years ago with 47773 which was actually sold out, but don't let the facts get in the way of your inaccurate claims.

Or 1015 from the DTG? Or even the likes of 50007 from the 50 Alliance? Then of course there’s the runs involving the 20’s last year.

If you don’t mind me asking how would you like VT to grow its business by just using a 47, 2 Castles plus the one trip per year with a 57xx?

I believe I clearly explained how Vintage were doing this back in 2018/2019 before Covid. They were hiring out traincrew for RHTT work, unit testing and so on. They could do the same now, if they were so inclined.

Well I believe they are still recruiting for a Commercial Manager (?) so perhaps with your immense expertise you could email in and apply?

Too much focus on kettles for my liking but thanks for the invitation.

Right. Having spent half an hour of my life that I won’t get back dealing with what should have a perfectly sensible debate but which was rapidly turning into a massive bun fight. From now on can we keep it calm and informative please.

Thanks!

37403 reportedly with Vac brake issues, will be interesting to see if this affects Saturdays tour. Double choppers anyone ?
Well let's hope not. With blizzard conditions at the moment and a -5 hard freeze expected tonight a pair of 20's without a genny van wouldn't be the warmest of long trips! Mind you stick the 47 on the back for heat would be the option as it could do the other stuff as well ‍

Those of an English Electric inclination - and no, I'm not trying to reopen that recent wound - might be interested to know that the tour is in fact running with 37403 at the North end and 20189 on the other: I did a double take on seeing a blue 'Chopper' on one end of the rake!
