I have heard that actually the TSOs will go between the FOD and DVT as: 67 - TSOE - TSOD - RSB - FOD - TSO - DVT. Reason given was that it puts the accessible areas towards the centre of the formation and therefore more likely to be platformed. I don't know if that has been reconsidered, surely it will be a quieter atmosphere in First Class if it's at one end rather than a through-fare.

Additionally during SDO mods, the FOD is being turned so the WC is now at the loco end rather than the DVT end. I suspect the TSO would be as well if it goes next to the DVT.
That arrangement was only in place before SDO. Now that the standard class coach with disabled area is inserted then that arrangement isn't needed anymore. It will be all standard - buffet - first.

When the 5th car goes in the TO will be going back between the POD and the DVT.
As only 2 carriages are platformed at Nantwich, Abergavenny and Wem if it went between the TOE and TOD and the loco was leading there would be no wheelchair space in the platform.

Haven’t really kept up with the whole tfw mk4 sets.
But what the long term for the sets?
Are they here until they have enough 197?
No replacement lined up, as it stands they're here indefinitely. With the 170s going, there aren't enough 197s to cover everything without the MKIVs

Has anyone had any luck getting catering on the Manchester-Cardiff runs? Both the times I've caught the 06:37 from stockport there's been zero catering, not even a trolly. I was speaking to a guard who suggested TfW are struggling to get catering staff through their outsourced suppliers.

Why don’t they just advertise and hire their staff directly for the catering?

How odd. Could they not do TOE then TOD then TO so that it's platformed?

I've been trying to follow the set formations. As far as l know, all the TSOs have been temporarily removed whilst they run as 4+DVT. So they are now made up as: TSOE-TSOD-RSB-FOD-DVT. When they become 5+DVT eventually, the TSOs will be re-inserted between the TSOE and the TSOD, but not necessarily the same ones that came out of each set. My table has the sets arranged as below:
HD01. 12225 12315 10325 11323 82226
HD02. 12219 12304 10328 11324 82229
HD03. 12217 12324 10312 11325 82216
HD04. 12211 12310 10318 11319 82201
HD05. 12224 12326 10321 11320 82200
HD06. 12222 12323 10330 11321 82227
HD07. 12210 12316 10301 11322 82230
HD08. 12215 12308 10305 11316 82220

Spare DVT 82204

Donor vehicles TSOE 12229, RSB 10307, DVT 82206

This may not be 100%, as vehicles could be swapped over of course.

TSOs 12434 12452 12461 12477 (exGC ones) 12446 12447 12454 12526 (exLNER ones)

Apologies, yes you’re correct on HD01.

1W93 Cardiff Central - Holyhead showing as being 150229 today. Not sure I'd fancy doing that trip on a 150!!

Interesting the return working is not in the system; does that mean there will be a cancellation or that TfW will try and scramble a Mark 4 set up to North Wales later?

2x153 on the early Cardiff-Holyhead Mk4 diagram today (1W91).
But it's keeping time better than the two early southbound Mk4 sets.

1V91 was delayed from Chester as Avanti cancelled the service which the driver travels on from Crewe. Not the set’s fault!

is it really necessary to stop at such places as Church Stretton do they generate viable passenger numbers?
Church Stretton has a very spotty service with lots of 1hr30 gaps, or 2hr at weekends - entirely inappropriate for a popular walking destination. It needs more services, not fewer.

I appreciate that there are still plenty of substitutions for Mark 4 sets between Manchester and Cardiff, but how dependable is the provision of full restaurant catering when they do run?

The buffet has been closed several times when I’ve taken a MK4.

It tends to be open when it passes me but can't comment on whether there is the full hot meal provision if the buffet is open.

Irrespective of what timing loads on RTT etc show the only Booked Mk4 departures from Manchester are: 0627 and 1430, the Cardiff departures for Manchester are 1052 and 1855.

There are lots of Mods etc still taking place on the fleet, HD03 is at Landore still for SDO but is due out shortly with 67017 due to go down this week for testing it. Once That is released HD07 will take its place and will be the first to be reformed as a 5 car. There's also a programme of coupling replacements taking Place on a number of sets which takes them out of service at Crewe for approx 3 days.

There's still a lot of 'depot' training which needs to be undertaken, if any more sets than are currently used aren't on depots then this will never take place and crews then can't be passed out so it's better overall for a phased introduction.

Until May weekday diagrams are:
Mon-Fri 3 diagrams
06:27 Manchester to Cardiff
11:25 Cardiff to Holyhead
16:36 Holyhead to Cardiff

06:48 Cardiff-Holyhead
11:33 Holyhead to Cardiff
17:14 Cardiff to Holyhead

05:33 Holyhead to Cardiff
10:52 Cardiff to Manchester
14:30 Manchester to Cardiff
18:55 Cardiff to Manchester

Saturday 2 diagrams:
04:35 Cardiff-Manchester
08:30 Manchester-Cardiff
12:52 Cardiff-Manchester
16:30 Manchester-Swansea

04:54 Crewe-Cardiff
08:49 Cardiff-Manchester
12:30 Manchester-Cardiff
16:49 Cardiff-Manchester

Not a great day at all today, not a single set made a full diagram. Likely to only be the Holyhead start diagram out tomorrow.

1V98 has failed near Craven Arms apparently, unsure which set but it is a MK4. Looking to get a rescue loco to it.

So only one out of ten planned Mk4 legs operated today, the early Holyhead-Cardiff?
The substitute 175 on 1W57 (Cardiff-Manchester) was the one with the thermal incident at Wilmslow.
Not a good day on the Marches.

There was a 67 on the 1430 from Manchester, started at Crewe 1510, I saw it somewhere in Shropshire while I suffered 150208 instead on the 1553 from Hereford. RTT and the screens had suggested a 175/1, so imagine my horror when the 150 rolled in.

Did the 1156 from Hereford, running very late when I gave up on it, actually have a 67 on it?

That one wasn't the 175 with the thermal incident?

I believe it did in the end, would have been 67020 and HD02.

Why horror? At least it has a 99% of actually getting there without incident. I used to hate 150s but they've grown on me in recent years. They just keep going.

I did like 150s until some less than pleasant journeys on 150s in recent times, and they're just not that nice compared to 158s, 175s and the MK4s.

@SuperLuke2334 Thanks, I was going to do it but when I rocked up around half 11 it was running late, I was cold and decided the better idea was to go back to base and get a load of housework done!

This is what RTT says about 1W57 today, but it appears to be a Mk4 set rather than a 175 (and with the incident at Crewe rather than Wilmslow ;)).:
This service was cancelled between Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly due to a fire alert causing an evacuation (RH).

It’s always worth bearing in mind that those cancellation reasons may not be directly related to that train. The fire at Wilmslow had knock-on effects, and 1W57 was simply one of the trains affected.
