Are Piccadilly and Northern trains not being washed anymore?

I’ve noticed window etching is getting very bad on all the lines. Window films are just not being replaced. I was waiting for a district line at Victoria yesterday, and pretty much every single S7 going on both directions had heavily etched windows all the way down the train. A couple of units even had graffiti tags on the bodywork. The same was true on the Northern line when I used it during the working week. I know TFL are broke, but changing out heavily etched window film is a relatively quick win in terms of keeping the network looking cared for.

Changing the film regularly is also effective at combating repeated etching. As with grafitti etched windows invite more etching.

Trains being taken in or out of depot would not receive a full wash, if washed it would be partial, driven through the wash at 5mph or whatever.

On the subject of graffiti, I thought trains didn’t go out in service when tagged?

Recently I’ve seen quite a few in service which have been tagged, and two which were very heavily sprayed up (1 x Central, 1 x H&C).

Did something change?

I suppose if they're short on units it's throw whatever they have into service until such a time it can be cleaned.

Have any enthusiast specials ever gone through them? It sounds like fun.

I have no special knowledge, but from reading this I imagine that money is not being saved by refusing to wash trains (because such a saving would presumably be applied across all lines), but by refusing to repair the Northern and Piccadilly washes, and the other lines will presumably become dirty as soon as their washes break.
When the 1992 Stock was on test I remember going through a (working!) train wash in one. It was a day open only to London Transport employees and their families.

The 1967 stock farewell tour (15 May 2011) from the Victoria line to Uxbridge and Ealing Broadway went to the staff platform at Northumberland Park, a move which passes the train wash at the depot, which washes all trains to and from the staff platform, including washing the tour train with passengers aboard...

I have found a picture taken by a passenger of a window on the train taken from inside with the water cascading down (though the rollers themselves are not shown): http://www.streetlightonline.co.uk/Tube/67Farewell/67Farewellgallery1.htm

Bakerloo has “booked washes” throughout the day. Most Stonebridge Park terminators will run through the wash and reverse in the depot. Some will just reverse on the depot reception roads and not wash.

S8s on the other hand rarely ever see a wash.

Central line will often run through a wash when stabling at Hainault or when entering service at West Ruislip from Ruislip depot.

When I say “a wash” I’m talking about an automated machine that the train will go through like a car wash. Not hand washing etc.
The Central Line fleet is filthy and doesnt seem to have been cleaned for years now

The planned engineering works on the dc lines may have disrupted the cleaning schedule given the trains cannot access stonebridge park depot

Can't speak for the Underground but many Charters using Units have been through Carriage Washers at Main Line Depots, often being given a Wash whilst doing so! Appropriate warnings given beforehand to close all hopper windows!!
Also I gave done a Washer Road on Sheffield SuperTram at Nunnery Depot during an Open Day. The Kids on board LOVED it!

I know of one steam ecs routed via Clapham Jct washer and the crew got a quick blast. Many moons ago. Probably a full blown RAIB report now

Internally they've just issued a health and safety notice related to acid etching as it's on the rise again. The notice was obviously in relation to actions to be taken should it be discovered wet or get on someone's skin. Nonetheless it's a bit tricker to repair than simply replacing the film... probably why it's becoming the vandals' choice.

Been in London again after a bit of an absence and most of the tube still looks well kept to me with the S stock looking especially well kept.

However some of the piccadilly line trains are looking tired and looking like they need a retrim and a repaint - you can tell they are going to be replaced!

Graffiti seems no worse than i remember
