The original competition asked schoolchildren to name them using set categories, things like castles, mountains, lakes, landmarks etc. A full list was published some while back, but whether the plan is still to name them all I’m not sure. But if they do go ahead with it then they’ll all be from those broad categories.

Edit: Here is the original list https://tfw.wales/magnificent-train-journey-winners

They don't have to work in a valley or even the South Wales Metro Valleys. How many of the Castle Class locomotives worked in/near the relevent castles !. Plus many of the valley names that would spring to mind are not part of the South Wales Metro - Conway Valley for instance. TfW have started with the name "Happy Valley" in Denbigshire.

I believe the Happy Valley in question here is the one on the Great Orme in Llandudno, which is in Conwy, as mentioned upthread.

I noticed the tap in the toilet on 197015 was a bit like the GA Flirts and cutting out near enough straight away once I moved my hand away from the sensor rather than carrying on running for 5 seconds to allow for better hand washing.

To save water and aswell to attempt to have less in the waste tanks

Yes. I thought the name "Happy Valley" was to do with a real place in Wales but not necessarily anyway near South Wales. I thought I read up thread that it was in Denbigshire but not sure.

It is why I avoid washing my hands in automatic wash facilities, too many lessons learnt. I can seldom dry my hands successfully which is a nuisance. But it is a lot worse if you have soap on your hands and cannot wash it off due to a hopeless sensor :{. I instead concentrate my efforts on trying not to touch too much (buttons, lavatory seat, door handlers etc).

Local government in North Wales is, and has been, complex.
Llandudno, despite being east of the Conwy river, was in Caernarfonshire rather than Denbighshire until 1974 when it became part of Clwyd county.
Clwyd was abolished in 1996 and Conwy Borough established over areas previously in Caernarfonshire and Denbighshire, including Llandudno.
The ceremonial county is however still Clwyd.

Just a quick question, on RTT it shows that 150258 and 197007 worked in multiple on yesterday's 0525 Manchester airport to Llandudno, did this even happen and if not is it even possible?

No it isn’t possible so obviously didn’t happen. The couplers are completely different for a start.

It’s probably where the original set was replaced, but the original set was not de-allocated in the system, so both sets show.

I think 197s can only connect to other 197s?

RTT is often incorrect. The other day they had a pair of 153s attached to a 175!

Will never happen. Impossible. It was the 197 that worked it.

Yes that's right, its just issues with the data feed.

It is not RTT that is incorrect, it is the data being fed to it. Important difference.

They do have an adaptor on board so they can rescue/be rescued by a BSI coupler fitted unit (like a 153), but it's a 5mph clear the line job, nothing more than that.

They can only properly multi with each other, and with a 196 (subject to certain limitations).

197007 on its way there with a stick on nameplate apparently. Does anyone know what the name is? Thanks.

EDIT

The name of 197007 is Happy Valley.

It's an area on the Great Orme.
Is the opposite side in Welsh maybe; Cwm Hapus perhaps?

I hope not. The location has an older, original name in Welsh: Y Fach. (See here, for example.)

It's a common glitch that happens when a train is changed last minute or enroute.
It's not a Glitch with RTT. Until someone changes it on the internal system, deleting the original unit RTT is showing exactly what's still allocated.

A resplendent 197 007 ‘Happy Valley’ about to depart Liverpool South Parkway P1, with the 16:08 1D06 to Chester (29/01/2023).

A 197 is out running between Swansea and Carmarthen today, driver training presumably. I couldn't see which unit it was.

That looks like another unit running ECS to Cardiff owing to a cancellation - it's running with a similar headcode and the same times as the cancelled 1W60.

The 197 training runs will be the Class 3 services shuttling between Swansea and Carmarthen.

It was 3E15 1220 Carmarthen to Swansea I saw. It didn't go to Swansea Station though, so presumably went to Landore instead.

Quite - there were Castle Class steam locomotives named Kilgerran Castle and Cardigan Castle and the weight limit on the Cardigan branch would have meant the class wasn't allowed up there (Kilgerran being the first stop out of Cardigan on the way back down the branch).

Yes, they are also running Swansea to Carmarthen today. One just passed Burry Port, not sure of the set number though.

Thanks,

Edit - Managed to just see one whilst stood at the platform in Briton Ferry heading towards Port Talbot around 1110. A few mins behind a 175 stopping service going to Manchester.

Did you manage to identify the set? I think it was 013 that passed here earlier, but hard to see the number when they are running fast.

It was 197008.

Yes hard to see the numbers but luckily this one slowed down as it passed through Briton Ferry as it was only a few minutes behind a 175 in passenger service which must have only just left Baglan!

I confirmed it was 013 here when it passed again later.
