Either there’s very few trains running on a Sunday or a very heavy reliance on rest day working

The latter, mainly. Luckily there's no shortage of volunteers.

Anything up to 18 months in theory although it's quite possible to be qualified in around a year dependent on availability of instructors, assessors and so on.

Just out of curiosity, is there a difference in salary between Chiltern and XC despite them both being under the umbrella of Arriva? It says on this thread that Chiltern is around £56k once qualified and I’m sure I read that XC is £65k? Obviously, neither are to be grumbled at, but was curious nonetheless.

Yes. Two totally different TOCs, regardless of both being part of the Arriva Group. No reason why they should be the same salary. Different types of operator, different Ts & Cs and so on. Chiltern clearly pay less but they certainly have better terms and conditions which were sold somewhere down the line on XC for a better headline salary.

London Overground are Arriva and now on 70k. Grand central are Arriva and on different again.

“to arrive promptly before 9:00 am at Aylesbury depot for the 3-4 months course”.

I’ve read some TOC’s provide accommodation near to the training centre, is that also the case with Chiltern or is it travel from home to Aylesbury for training each day? If it is travel from home, it’d be around a 3-4 hour round trip so wouldn’t really be viable every day.

I don't believe Chiltern do this, no.

Certainly Birmingham trainees have travelled to Aylesbury every day for training in the past.

Definitely something to consider before applying then.

To create a worst case example - one could live in Penkridge, Staffs and meet the travel requirement of 45 minutes to BMO, but face a daily 4 hour return journey during the training period.

Another thing to bear in mind is that there WILL be other applicants willing to do this.

I think you’ll get free travel on the chiltern train

Don't see why not, fairly sure there is a question in the application about having applied for other Arriva Group jobs, which you would say yes too.

I have multiple applications in for DB TOCs as well, had no issues being able to apply.

Does anybody know which tests are included in Chiltern's stage 1 assessments? Is it just GB, TE-OCC & TRP 1 & 2 or is DFFT included?

Hi,

There is a job posted for arriva train driver apprentice role.

Apparently the depo is in marlybone however the actual training is for 3-4 months in Aylesbury. Does anyone know where in the UK one will be driving the arriva trains? Any information on what to expect at the assessment and interview for this job? Any information would be appreciated and how long it takes to hear back from the recruitment team?

I only sent my application today so it’s still early days I just wanted to get an idea on what to expect and how long it will take!

Also since I’m living in London is it better for me to rent out a place in alysbury whilst I do the 3-4 months course as it’s quite far from London and I can imagine the traffic going there if your driving by car.

I noticed the assessments are enhanced. I believe I have passed to standard. Will I need to resit the assessment centre or will they look at my scores and decide?

No if you've only got standard passes you'd have to resit and pass to enhanced, your previous pass will be overwritten if you fail any of them though
