175006 onto 1W93 from Cardiff, what is going on with these 67’s
The 175 pulled back a 24 minute late start at Cardiff, to be on time at Holyhead.
The Mk4 schedule must be very slack.

Yep, 1hr45 (ish) for Chester to Holyhead without Shotton, Abergele or request stops is very generous.

Err, you could have fooled me. Days when the sets covered all their planned workings have been the exception rather than the rule.
Surely most of the cancellations on Holyhead-Cardiff that you refer to were more often than not down to insufficient crew being fully trained up rather than train faults, an issue which has now been addressed.

It doesn't appear addressed. I see the morning northbound every day from my uni building and it's hardly ever the 67 it's booked as.

At the start, as berneyarms says there were issues covering all services with qualified traincrew - and it only took one missing link out of all of the drivers and guards booked to work the set through it's day in service to require the entire diagram to be worked by a DMU instead.

Throughout the second half of 2022 it really was pretty rare to see DMUs working these services - HD1-3 coped fairly well between them. Not perfectly, but much better than what we're seeing now

Lately it hasn't been so good. The ex GC sets are a bit further behind when it comes to reliability, but they're the only game in town whilst the original sets get their SDO mods.

Things will improve

It's a mixture of padding and the fact 175s can run at MU & HST speeds between Cardiff and Chester. With the gradients on the line it makes more of a difference going north.

It also had not to stop orders for everywhere bar Newport and Hereford as far as Shrewsbury.

It's recognised that the HD04-06 have had some pretty dismal reliability, Neither issue this week is actually failures though mostly logistical issues. HD01 is due back out this week after investigation and repairs from its failure, HD04 will then have an exam then be standby at Crewe which should add some resilience. HD02 is also scheduled out of Landore imminently which Will then enable a spare set at Canton which should vastly improve things.

I was referring to the issue of sufficient train crew not being trained on Mark 4 sets. That has been addressed.

It’s now a different reason for the cancellations.

Could anyone please tell me which - if any - Holyhead/Manchester-Cardiff and vice-versa services are class 67/mark 4 stock today? TIA.
The allocations are fairly reliably shown on RTT (with DMU substitutions where made).
They will also show as 4 cars (so ignore 2/3/5-car trains - until they add the 5th car).
The loco/set numbers are shown on the left hand side of the detailed display for the train.

They pick up the next Cardiff service after short turnrounds at Holyhead/Manchester.
They have an hour or more at the Cardiff end, and may swap routes, before returning north.

Manchester set was changed at Cardiff for 2 X 153, which seemingly failed and got swapped again for a 175. Just left Cardiff 41 late.

The 153s did the Holyhead instead.
HD04 is required in Crewe for exam tonight so hopefully will be able to head out on 1W65 this evening

Now being turned at Wilmslow, arrived 14:16 27 minutes late, will leave as 1V46 at 14:49. Currently in platform 1 at Wilmslow which is a bit annoying, 2 is more usual and better for cross-platform connections onwards. 175 105 according to RTT.
EDIT Now 2A89 14:16 Crewe to Manchester via Styal is having to use platform 2 to get around 175 105!

Currently on board 1W96 (Set HD05 - 82200 propelled by 67 013) passing Leominster a couple of minutes late. This is the only Mark 4 set that I've seen so far today, having 'enjoyed' 150 217 as far as Shrewsbury on the 12 30 from Piccadilly.

Correct. Sorry....I mistyped due to the rough riding of the train (I was sitting at the end of the carriage next to the propelling loco's screw coupling!). Post edited. I'm now on the return working of the same set (1W96) as far as Shrewsbury and we departed Cardiff Central 14 down due to the train being delayed on depot at Canton. I'm having a couple of pints in SHR with a friend who's a retired driver there....and then taking 1W65 - which should be 67 014 - back to Manchester for the last (22 57) from Victoria to Hebden Bridge.

I just don't understand where some of the 175s have gone. Why's it necessary to draft-in sprinters?

It seems that I was very lucky to ride in two different sets yesterday then!

Very much so! I looked for 67-hauled workings yesterday, there just wasn't much in the way of options. Not for the times I wanted to travel at least.

Hoping for better luck next week!

It seems like there are far less 175s available for service each day than there was. There used to be about 23/24 out of 27 each day in service.

Therefore this morning HD05 is yet again the lone survivor, HD06 has not made it off Canton. Perhaps for W96?
And HD05 is in trouble on 1W57.
Arrived on time in Cardiff from Holyhead, but started for Manchester 22 late, increasing to 41 at Woofferton.
It will probably get turned before reaching Manchester.

Signaling issue between Crewe & Shrewsbury seems to have caused problems, 1V39 was operated by 150240 with a reverse at Crewe to reach Shrewsbury via Chester, lets hope there was a trolley service!

Yesterday evening 1W65, on which I was travelling, was held at the signal at Wem (? - difficult to see exactly where in the dark!) for several minutes. However, we would have been on time into Piccadilly had it not been for another signal stop outside Longsight depot....presumably for a late-running train leaving platform 13.
