Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

All looks a bit of a disaster with plenty of long distance services today on The Marches being operated by 2 car 150’s and 153’s.

Im not sure if this is because of a lack of 175s being available at the moment or they are intentionally using 150s/153s to cover for what should be MK4s. Anyone able to confirm what is actually booked on the marches for the sets meant to be MK4 which arent at the moment. It also seems like a lot less than 23 or 24 175s (out of a total of 27) are booked for service at the moment.

All the services that are meant to be Mk4 are booked Mk4. This means that when there isn't a Mk4 its what can be got hold of at the time to cover the service.

Only HDO4 and HD05 as today's mk4s and the rest is a few 175's but mostly sprinters.

Yes, HD06 on Canton with slight issues.

As a Marches local it seems to be around a 50/50 split sprinter/175 covering for MK4s. Thank god for RTT as you can see the stopper Manchesters with a 2-150 and know to avoid at all costs!

I will say it again, give it a few weeks when they have troubleshooted all of the problems and it has become the everyday norm for the crew they will run fine.

I'm booked on the 14:40 from SPT to CDF tomorrow, and it was cheaper to buy a first class ticket than standard. What are the chances I actually get to sit in First?

Looking at RTT, your down to have 150270! Ouch

TfW have had them quite some time now, so really ought to be on top of faults. But it’s the railway, so they’ll only have started looking at them just before they were required for service.

It’s a bit unimpressive that they fail day after day to get the sets off shed even on the diagrams that have been mark 4s for years.

They were as these sets were the SDO training rakes so have had a fair bit of use. A lot of the issues aren't necessarily train faults.
HD04 has a passcom issue and should be out later on 1W96, HD06 has had to have unexpected work on it (not due to a fault) and is planned to be back out on Thursday on 1W91.

There were. But things break. Especially things that have been in storage for several years. HD01-03 had a similarly rocky introduction into service but eventually settled down to be fairly reliable.

Give it time and things will improve. Hopefully by tomorrow given I'm due to drive one and I'd rather it wasn't a 153.....

Should see HD04 back out on W96 tonight which then (all being well) should do the early Holyhead-Cardiff and the PM Manchesters tomorrow.
HD05 is due back out onto the morning Cardiff-Holyhead tomorrow too.
