The cab curve seems to cause some issues. I see the white line is a bit wiggly as it goes from side to front; there was a similar issue on the GWR 'Swallow' one a few years ago, too.

Still looks nice, though!

Cab fronts seem to be a bit of an issue for HST repaints these days - 43185 was similar and 43044's white band appears to get thicker and climb slightly as it goes across the front. 43102's livery is about the neatest application of IC livery I've seen in preservation.

That said, slightly wonky stripes appeared in BR days as well - here's 43172 in a similarly wonky application of Executive livery: https://flic.kr/p/2h26DDS

All churlish though, fabulous to see and full credit to those who have made it happen.

Train companies continuing to try and desperately please enthusiasts, and making their trains look ridiculously obscure in the process. A 80s/90s painted powercar does not go well with a very modern looking silver and pink 21st century livery on the rake. When will it stop?

I don't think it's any worse than 43002 or 43185 on mixed FGW/GWR rakes. It still looks pretty darn good!

I think one reason it looks so awful is that the back of the locomotive changes to the same pattern as the coaches it would have been used with in the days its from, so it flows nicely - EMT did this with their livery - but of course because the coaches aren’t in that livery this time it looks rather odd.

Still, it’s not harming me (other than offending my eyes a little) so if people want to get excited over this, let them. I’m not gonna spoil their fun. I’d rather Overground painted a 710/1 into promotional Spurs livery though.

I’d question your point on the logo; it looks about right to me. You might also consider that BR had all sorts of variations in livery application, so in that sense you might say it is accurate.

Great Western Railway looks rather odd without said livery clashes. Even before you got the green and pink mixed rakes there were of course the occasional Barbie coaches mixed in with the Dynamic Lines ones, and odd Fag Packet coaches intercepting full Barbie sets before that. The Sleeper in particular never used to have a full livery.

I'll agree it isn't harmonious, but no different in principle to mixed Blue/Grey and InterCity Exec or Swallow HST or even Mk2 sets on XC in the 1980s and early 1990s.

I remember a mention on an rmweb thread of a prototype for that:

11 coach EuroCity, each coach a different make and livery and to cap it all a hired in Norwegian loco covering for the issues the OBB were having with snow ingress in traction motors!

Well, they've not got all that long to do it. The present lease ends in June 2025 and I don't think we'll see it extended beyond then somehow.

I read today that 43184 was involved in an 'incident' where paint thinner (!) was thrown at the front. It was shown in a rubbed-down condition back at Laira Depot.

It seems a very odd excuse that, given the damage seemed to have occurred inbetween duties at Plymouth, I.e when it was stabled at Laira. Anyway, it has since been repainted and I believe it might have returned to traffic since. (The giveaway being 43156 in the video has since returned to traffic)

No worries, I was just updating my post at the time of quoting - on second thoughts, 184 might not have returned back to traffic yet, but the video is a little old as 156 (also seen in the video) has been in traffic since the 22nd of November. So I would say around the beginning to middle of November.

The markings on 184 have, I noticed, began to appear on a few of the GWR cars too, so I suspect it’s down to poor paint preparation / a blasting through the washers, than someone physically throwing paint stripper over it!
