Why are they not either cancelling or deleting those (still advertised) trains? Gross mismanagement leaving those trains up within four days.
*this train will not run
Well you missed that very clear note, it's your fault.

As a general rule, "late" timetable bids (anything submitted after T-14 weeks) will not be reflected in retail systems until the Thursday before that week's timetable starts on Saturday. This applies regardless of whether it's down to the TOC or Network Rail.

Obviously this is less than ideal given "Informed Traveller" (i.e. alterations being published at T-12) is pretty much dead - particularly at weekends - despite valiant efforts by some TOCs.

Bumping the thread just to highlight the chaos the railway is in with no firm, clear timetable on show.

Called one train company's customer service line to ask "are you definately running a train at 2030 on christmas eve".
- Call handler was adamant they are.
Reminded the call handler that it's all over the press that trains are finished by 3pm.
- Call handler says "no, this system will even let me reserve seats and disabled assistance"
Asked call handler to look at the subnotes on National Rail App.
- Call handler now confused, says he will email their planning & control.

This is not isolated to this company - spoke to another shortly after with similar confused answers.

Can foresee any number of intending passengers getting stranded late afternoon onwards at various locations around the network on Christmas Eve.

Northern App is now showing what I think is the correct situation now on our local line, i.e. no trains at all on the 24th. This whole dispute(s) is feeling more and more like a fight to death with no one coming out winner. (Note: this comment is reflection on what I think is the wider political situation rather than the actual rights and wrongs)

I know you said it was a general rule, but can you explain why that is the case? NR publish the data, so is that a NR policy decision? It is clearly bonkers that a timetable that may be known internally three months before the day of operation isn’t released until two days before operation, or have I misunderstood?

Personally I applaud NR for shutting lines early where there were major project possessions despite the inconvenience but majority of lines don't have possession on though so why have a blanket early finish when your still going to pay the staff isn't really helping the situation of trying to reduce teh gap between costs and passenger income.

On most lines there’s going to be no signallers or ECROs from1800, so the system has to be shut down, all trains in bed, possessions and isolations taken by then. And of course there are a lot of previously ‘non disruptive’ possessions that were going to be Xmas day and/or Boxing Day only that now become disruptive.

I’ve never heard of this general rule before. It’s certainly not been applied for the last 3 years!

Something that nearly caught one of my relations out is the impact on services on Xmas Eve on LUL routes operated over Network Rail infrastructure eg north of Queen's Park, Wimbledon Parson's Green etc.

It's the excuse that's been trotted out internally at my TOC when revised timetables haven't appeared in retail systems until the Thursday before they come into effect, even since Covid hit. (Which is, of course, less than helpful for both staff and passengers.)

This could, of course, be a misunderstanding on the part of the staff involved, in which case I apologise for passing on duff info.

Lumo's last trains are the 5:45 and 10:25 departures from London to Edinburgh, and 05:36 and 08:56 departures from Edinburgh to London.

Im not sure about Ops side but mtce get bonus payments for shifts that start from 2300 Xmas Eve round to shifts that start before midnight on Boxing day or they did when i had them deployed on S&C works i was responsible for through 2000's/10's and generally had no issue getting it covered as it was a sum set to incentivise volunteers.
RMT have an overtime ban, so regardless of any bonus payments that may or may not exist these days, the shifts won’t be covered if it’s not a booked shift I’m guessing.

Not exactly following the thread title, but NRES have the 06.15 SuO Northampton - Milton Keynes (it's always a bus) running on 25th December with a fare of £10.80.

Wonder if Wetherspoons on the concourse will give their staff an early getaway.

12.45pm: I’ve just given the bad news to a lady at Doncaster station who was trying to get to Nottingham.

Google maps says she can get there in 3½ hours on three buses.

What’s the last passenger train on the network today?

There’s a 1704 arrival into Swansea from Paddington. Well, it’s now starting from Reading.

Is the 1608 Scotrail service from Carlisle to Glasgow Central still running today? (Arrives c. 1839).

It appears so according to ScotRail:

However, the 17:15 is the last one until the 27th of December...

The winner for the last passenger train in the UK appears to be the 21.35 Belfast Great Victoria Street to Portadown (arriving 22.09).

With England, Scotland and Wales closing earlier than usual the Christmas Eve that seems to be the last UK rail passenger service this year, I can’t find anything later anywhere else.

4Z36 Wentloog to Daventry freightliner was the last train through Kidderminster at 1552 today. Double headed 66s, assume as an insurance against breakdown as train due in Daventry 1700. Steam running on the SVR of course from 26th December!

I had a walk into York station at 1500 and there were a few people about looking up at the empty departure board.

Anyone use any services today? Busy?

As I was walking from my car at Sainsbury’s this lunchtime a Sheringham service was approaching Norwich. It would normally be busy but had no more than a dozen onboard. Lots of do not travel messages on local radio & media.
