Southern Class 313 withdrawal/storage/scrapping updates

It seemed to me, judging from what we've seen so far, that the 313s will begin winding down first on the West Coastway, as there hadn't been any substitutions (football specials excepted) on the East until today. But now, with one Seaford in the hands of a 377/3, do we know yet whether the first withdrawals will be on West or East Coastway diagrams? I'd have thought by the very end of their life with Southern it would have been easiest to simply have them operating Seaford.

Maybe just because of lack of available units because there were like 5 or 6 on Littlehampton

Doubt it was a ‘Trial’. How would they collect the data ie. If passengers liked it.

On Sundays I think 377s operate the Hove shuttles

No doubt a shock to locals when their regular six year old train was replaced by one pushing thirty-five, but overall a sensible move to allow for more ten carriage workings in the Metro area.

Definitely could be a test though for driver training instead of a 3 1 3 a 3 7 7 / 3

The PIS isn’t an issue as such, I’m just mentioning it as one of the factors that make the 377/3 and early /1 seem so dated by comparison to /4.

looks considerably more dated than this, which I put down mainly to the interior colours. Still, very trivial points I know and still better than a 313.

Not sure I can sense much difference between them to be honest, though the point made about the BO smell on the Connex-interior versions is fair - anyone know what causes it?

Certainly there’s nothing wrong with Southeastern’s 375s, which started life with the same Connex spec interior, so not much more than a small refresh would be needed.

Are the 313s particularly prone to wheel slide during autumn? I only ask as they sound worse for flats than any other type of stock I regularly hear.

Definitely - they constantly go to selhurst for the wheel lathe

I saw 313206 in service in late October, when i visited for a few days. The only ones i didn't see were 202, 207, 214 and 217

I don't think 214 has been in service since early October; 202 mid-October and 217 since early-mid June.

It was when the fares had been sneaked up by an extra 5% on the coastway to reflect the better standards (Electrostar) which then didn't go backdown when they were replaced by tarted up life expired London Commuter trains.
The lack of toilets was supposedly going to be mitigated by improved station facilities which surprise surprise never happened.
The 313s were only ever going to be used for limited stopping services but within 6 months they were being sneaked on to Portsmouth Brighton Semi Fasts and even Southampton to Brighton Semi Fast were being considered at one stage.

Those are the only 313s I require for haulage.

I am doing an audit of my requirements for south of the Thames, and I require roughly 90-95% of the 377s.

Also, very quickly while I am here, have all the green 455s now been withdrawn/scrapped?

I don't think I'm unreasonable in assuming you wouldn't think that if you weren't A) a rail enthusiast (although even many of them hate 313s) and B) a "pep fan."

I used to be both of these attributes... having to part-commute on the coastway has made go from loving to utterly despising them. I don't think a single person that relies on them genuinely enjoys having to endure them.

Yes, but only limited workings in the peaks. A 313 worked a morning peak trip to Ore and an afternoon peak trip to Eastbourne for a while.
