Hi all,

I may have to fly from Birmingham to Belfast City in a couple of weeks time, leaving Birmingham in the morning, returning late afternoon/early evening. Has anyone got any recent experience of how long it takes at the moment to get check in and security at both airports? Also, from landing, travelling with hand baggage only, how long I can expect to get out the arrivals gate at Belfast City?

Many thanks.

On my jet2 experience at Birmingham, check in and security was surprisingly quick, I can not help with Belfast city and I am aware that I was extremely lucky to clear BHX so quick. I would arrive at however many hours before the flight your airline suggests, this is normally accurate however on occasion you may have some to time to spare in duty free and at the gate.

I departed BHX last week and security wait was 5-10 minutes early morning. Much better than the 30 minutes when I went in May at a similar time.

Coming back it took about 30 minutes to get to the terminal by bus a we had to wait for the whole pane to offload. With a jet bridge you can be outside the terminal in <10 minutes with no passport checks (30 minutes passport queue a few days ago) or baggage reclaim.

Pay for fast lane security if time is tight. I did this recently at Glasgow when I planned to catch a flight with less than an hour to spare. It was not as mad as it sounded, the site I was visiting was less than 10 minutes drive from the airport and a colleague dropped me off. I only had hand luggage.

I’m the event fast lane wasn’t needed but it was worth having it as a back-up.

From memory exit at Birmingham and Belfast City is usually quick, especially as you’re on a domestic flight so no passport control to worry about.

I have flown from Birmingham a number of times recently with pre-8am departures.

The quickest I was through security was about 40mins - and that was after I was pulled out of the queue and taken up to the front.

I flew out of Brum 2 weeks ago and there was no one in the queue for security. There were 3 scanners open and I had to just pick one to use! I’ve never paid for fast track anywhere and never missed a flight.
Belfast city I used in the summer. I was in my hotel in the city centre 15 mins after the plane landed! Very easy airport to get through!

I went to Belfast City in May. Quick exit inbound - I made the train at Sydenham 15 mins after landing which includes a walk down the dual carriageway. Another 15 mins and I was on the beach at Holywood!

The return was on a Sunday evening but security took less than 5 mins. There is a pub, Starbucks and WH Smith airside but not much else. Note if you use the train it's only hourly on Sunday iirc.
