Evening all. Does anyone know if a CBI pass with Avanti would be accepted in place of an mmi with another TOC as a pass?

Hopefully that makes sense Thanks
There's a lot of discussion in here and elsewhere on the forum that suggests that one overwrites the other and you can't hold both. Also if you have one and fail the other you lose the one you had.

No you would have to do an MMI with the TOC which requires it. CBI is only for Avanti or whoever else uses it. If a company uses MMI you cant use your CBI

Did mine on the 25th, deadline was 30th, Euston so I'm on day 8 since deadline and two weeks tomorrow since doing them. If I had enough nails to bite I probably would be
Similar to mine. I don't think I have seen anyone from Euston get their results today. Seemed mainly to be Manchester. I have never applied before and these are my first tests. I'm wondering if that has caused the delay. They're getting people through first who have previously got passes?

Yeah that's what I thought. Is there a list somewhere if which companies use which one? Thanks
From what I remember I think Avanti and maybe GTR use CBI the vast majority use MMI. So if you held a pass with one and another toc used the other you'd have to pass that one too.

I think it's just a matter of pot luck maybe. I'm the first Liverpool candidate on the thread to receive their application by the looks of it, and I have never sat any train driver tests before. You'll get one soon though!

I don't think so. I've never applied or done any of the tests before and I got my email 7 days after the deadline.

Think it's just them slowly going through the applications from when they were all submitted maybe

Might be a bit early in the process to worry about this, but at what stage of the application process do you need proof of your qualifications? Because unfortunately there's a chance that I've lost my certificates of GCSE and BTEC exam results and will have to go through a laborious process to get new documents of proof if it turns out that I have lost them. Is it a thing solely for the DMI interviews?

Didn't know it was even a thing or if it even is.

But I'd assume any face to face interview they'd ask you for proof otherwise really they would of already asked

Hi All, received positive email today for Euston, deadline was 30th. They sent me list of tests, I though it will be:
• The Trainability for Rules and Procedures Test Part 1 and 2
• The Group Bourdon Concentration Test
• The Test of Everyday Attention for Occupational Assessment (TEA-Occ)

but it's actually:

  • The WAFV Vigilance Exercise
  • The ATAVT Perception Test
  • The 2-Hand Co-ordination Test
  • The Structured Interview (CBI)
Does anyone know why it is like that for me?

Probably for efficiency. Makes sense in a way...

Most people are doing paper tests first and then will get invited to do the computer tests that you are doing, but with you its vice versa.

So it's likely if you (and others, because you won't be alone) pass the computer tests, you will get invited to do the paper tests after.

Out of curiosity, is it based in Crewe or Watford?

I am sure i passed some of these tests few years ago and they were valid for 5 years, i think, so maybe i just skipped that stage completly.
Assessment is in Crew on 30th November . Planning to stay overnight as it's 8.45 start.

If you did the tests you thought it would be within 5 years and passed to enhanced, you don't need to do them. You'll only need to do the tests you haven't done or didn't pass to enhanced

Slightly off topic guys.. as well as the avanti process I’ve just been offered a job with freightliner as a shunter (not driving).. currently work for NWR and when I started there I needed a basic DBS which I did but that’s now ran out so need to apply for another one for Freightliner. Does anybody know whether Avanti require a basic DBS too? On the off chance I get offered a job with Avanti I want to see if I can use my basic DBS I’ll be getting in the next week or so for that as well? Hope that makes sense.. thanks in advance.

ps does anyone have any tips for the memorising passage and getting asked the questions about it seems like a stumbling block for me atm!

So if you pass these tests with Avanti and then apply to a toc that uses the mmi, do you only have to do the interview part with that TOC? Or do you have to do all of the other tests as well? Thanks

Avanti has more in-depth tests with the M7/VSE than most TOCs do. The stage we're on atm is with TEA-OCC and group bourdon are standard tests for rail.

If you pass these with avanti to an enhanced mark but for some reason didn't progress further then as long as that TOC doesn't have any tests that avanti does then yes, you'd just have to do your MMI and DMI with said TOC.

That is for 5 years though, after 5 years you'd have to do them all again.

Also Avanti look for enhanced on tests but you can pass to a national standard which isnt a fail and some TOCs take standard marks too if that was another Avenue.

Do you mean the passage read to you by audio and then you're having to answer questions on it?

Don't think they're asked aloud just a multiple choice answer sheet.

What id do with that is learn to pick out the important bits and memorise what their process is such as "partial headlight fault the other day/night beam must be used"

Therefore you can shorten that to memorise it easier as partial headlight fault = alternate day/night beam which will be easy to pick out of the multiple choices

5 years is usually with the toc/foc you have passed with. Most others ask for passed within last 2 or 3 years

Ah right okay.. didn’t realise it was listen to an audio and then get multiple choice sheet! That’s handy to know, thank you. I think out of them all that’s the one I’m least looking forward to. Feel fairly happy with the other tests.
