Is anyone still waiting to hear back?

Just received the email and to my surprise it’s good news. On the email it states to prepare for computer assessments and CBI and also says:

If you have sat the assessment process previously with another train organisation, we will be aware of this and advise on the day of what assessment tools you will need to complete.

I have sat and passed both the written and computer tests already in Feb 2020. Should I email OPC to see if they are to the standard Avanti require, or should I just wait to find out on my assessment day?

The reason I ask, is I’m currently waiting to sit an MMI with the TOC I currently work for and if I’m required to resit any computer based assessments, I’m not sure if I want to risk failing those and overwriting my current passes.

I'd recommend emailing them. No harm in doing so.
Worst case scenario they say "unfortunately we cannot tell you".

I emailed them today to ask which tests I would be required to do, and was surprised to be told that I don't need to do the test I didn't pass for TPE in April, but I do have to re-do one that I did. Clearly there are some different levels of enhanced pass through different TOCs, as people often suggest.

Seeing as people are asking about what tests they should do, would it be wise for me to do the same? I've never sat the process before and this is my first time applying so I have never taken a single one of these OPC assessment tests I am about to undertake at the centre in Crewe (the TRP 1 & 2, Group Bourdon, and Tea-OCC).

That's quite surprising. It sounds like Avanti's level of enhanced pass may not be as high as I initially thought. That said maybe the driver shortage they're currently facing means they can't be too picky as they might like to be. I'm not so sure though personally.

If you have never sat any then you will be sitting all those on day 1 unless you fail any in the process. If you pass all to avanti standards u will get invite for the computer ones

No, because you've never sat any of them, you'll have to do them all.

The question is for people who have already previously sat tests and pass, they skip the tests they've already done because they're valid for a few years.

There's no "enhanced level" it's more whatever % of the test that the TOCs classed as enhanced. You could do enhanced with TPE but your score wouldn't be enhanced with Avanti.

Just do your best and we'll all be fine

Thought not, but I wasn't entirely sure, so thanks for clearing that up properly for me.

No problem,

Try not to overthink it. They're tests that are just testing your likeness for the role such as contraction, attention and multitasking.

If you overthink it or over practice you might just end up getting in over your head on the day.

Just relax, practice minimally and you'll be fine. The key thing I've been thinking of is to know what's coming and rest.

If he's passed to enhanced with TPE but being asked to re-sit with Avanti, surely that tells you that Avanti's pass mark is higher?

Also, I don't think there's a shortage of applicants, so I doubt they're adjusting their pass mark to make it easier.

Sounds like you've already been told.

Mine still says submitted because once you've submitted it you're not going through that atm. You're working with the OPC.

I doubt that status will change until you're either successful or fail
I've had one email so far saying my application has been submitted, and thats it.

Out of curiosity, if successful, where is the training held for Euston applicants?
I’d be interested to know this too. Also when is it likely to commence? I’m out of the country for a couple of weeks end of Jan and a little worried this could cause problems for me.

From someone I know who has gone through this recently application is slow so I wouldn't worry too much about January. Took 9 months for him to start and I believe that is quite quick for railway. The most recent courses have been in glasgow and have a mix of people their from London upto scotland

I only got national standard on the TEA-Occ, as far as I was told afterwards. According to the OPC I only have to resit TRP1 later this month
Well.. one is better than some. And some is better than all!

Do they provide accommodation or is a daily commute to/from expected?

Glasgow?! Only 350 miles away!!! Surely they will run courses a tad closer?

Oh and thanks for the heads up about timing. I did think this would be the case but it’s good to hear a recent experience.

Accommodation and food allowance. Don't worry about the logistics they will organise it all, you just need to be prepared for long train journeys and being away from home

Training is carried out either in Polmadie or at Tatton House in Crewe. Your Depot location doesn't influence where you go, if you live a fair distance away however you will travel to the training centre on the Sunday afternoon to your hotel and be paid for it.
