Wouldn't have minded seeing Paramore but they'd sold out by the time I got into them. Evanescence (pre Open Door) and Within Temptation must have kicked bottom too.

I read on last fm that dragonforce are going to be a support band for Maiden in Brum. Shame it's on a Sunday, I fancied some post gig drinking in town!

Haven't heard anything official yet but then it's one of those things I rarely check until something lands in my inbox.

I've only heard Faster at the moment but it's enough for me to pre-order on amazon

I've found that Dragonforce don't suit the festival environment with their highy polished technical metal approach IMO: I've appreciated them much more in "proper gig" indoor venues. Something about Dragonforce seems to get lost in the translation in a big open field. I dated one of their dancing girls that have a propensity to crop up on stage with them sometimes for a while *Obscure and unnecessary claim to tenuous fame*

I presume that the Maiden set will be heavy on the new "Final Frontier" material? I like the "bite" behind the title track but beyond that the new album is rather unremarkable for me.

Within Temptation are great live. The first time I saw them (I suspect that I've seen them twice, a lot of the female fronted symphonic metal bands blur into one for me sometimes) was at Download 2007, when they were having massive technical difficulties, and yet despite this and the fact that their planned set was thrown completely out of kilter and quite drastically cut, they still played an absolute blinder. Incredible musicianship. I'll pick up a copy of "The Unforgiven" in due course, from listening to "Faster" it sounds like a solid record, I won't rush out to buy it though as I do with new Nightwish releases (I'm firmly rooted in the Nightwish camp).

My favourite non-fairport Cropredy moment was The Leningrad Cowboys in teh rain (1990 I think)

I’ve got the “Cropredy Capers” box set from Free Reed (I’m well merched up on Cropredy), and that seems to be a popular favourite Cropredy moment. Must have been quite something in that case!

Given that Within Temptation were playing the smaller stage at Download '07 I imagine you must have been no more than ten yards away from where I was, as I was quite near the front too. Small world huh?

Very much so Well an Cousin in Aviemore knew my neighbour when i lived a few miles from Billinglsy. Also i was right at the front for maiden as well what was good for me

6X is good for so many things

2007 has been my favourite Cropredy year so far: Show of Hands on the Friday (Highest in my esteem of folk and folk rock acts, missed them off my original list though), which was followed by a powerful set from RT and band. You can always trust Richard Thompson to deliver a strong performance, every time. And, with the '07 DVD to back me up as evidence on the bits I cant remember, a superb Fairport set on the Saturday night featuring quite a lot of the "proper" mid eighties to mid nineties Fairport lineup: DM back in his rightful place on drums, and Maart in his on guitar. Occasionally aided and abetted by Gerry and Chris as required. That's right, Fairport featured TWO drummers on kits for a portion of the set! An absolutely blissful rendition of "Portmeirion" played pretty damn much as originally presented on Expletive Delighted. I can't remember where I was for Wishbone Ash though. I presume that means that I was either in the Red Lion or just returning from it! One thing I'd almost forgotten after the deluge we had this August just gone, was how scorchingly hot it was that year!

Steeleye in '06 was a night to remember (Storming performance of "London"), and the impromptu appearance of Robert Plant during the Fairport set for "Battle of Evermore" in 2008 was pretty magical.

If were spreading this thread out to include Sports events, then i've been to Liverpool & Tranmere Rovers games, & a Liverpool away game at Highbury.

The old & new Wembley for the football charity shield & RL chalenge Cup final, Old Trafford for the RL Grand Final, Also St Helens RL games[season ticket].as well as Rugby League games at Headingley, DW stadium, Halliwell Jones[Warrington], Racecourse Ground, Galpharm Stadium.

Before my local closed, the landlord used to have 1 or 2 cover/tribute bands on each week. I've been to too many of them to remember, but the standout acts for me were Toxic Twins (Aerosmith tribute), Madchester and Skaville.

Last year, I went to see Jean Michel Jarre at the MEN Arena (incredible show), and Status Quo at Bridlington Spa.

Other places I went to was Cadwell Park and Oulton park to watch the British Superbikes, as well as Glanford Park to watch Scunthorpe United ....

This year, so far I have tickets booked for World Superbikes at Donnington, MotoGP at Silverstone and BTCC at Rockingham. Gigs are going to have to wait until I have a few more pennies in the bank ....
