1 out of 6 on Workington towns is a bit of a shambles! Dead or not, Moorclose is an LF service and if they can't provide at least one on the circular, it is a bit worrying. 47059 on staff shuttles is also beyond a joke looking at today's allocations. Town's PVR back to 5 in April also looks like it won't help at this rate. I actually want 34079 to hurry up back to service!

The DAF Prima's Arriva use are getting very unreliable. They also have an ALX300 bodied B10BLE that gets used on there. Neither are in good condition.
One of the Prima's was off on a different route today.

That is correct, PVR increase of 1. PVR increase really won't be appreciated with the current shortage of buses, leading to 16441, 16870, 20908/9, 20965/6 and 20977 all appearing from the reserve fleet. It should be helped a little when 34691 is rebuilt, with other missing Darts fixed up as well.
Either way, passengers will continue to moan. They'll moan that they've gotta sit on the bus on the 9 minute layover, but if the timetable wasn't adjusted to improve service reliability, they'd moan that it was running late all of the time.

Surely moaning is what keeps us all going :D

No problem for me, as I always get off at Cumrew Close anyway. I am surprised that the 76 is regarded as being so bad - my observations would suggest it is no worse than other routes in the city. Perhaps I always catch it on a good day.

Wandering a little off topic, but the best/worst vehicle I have ever seen on the 685 was an Arriva Metrorider some years ago when I was commuting to the Newcastle area  Not sure how comfortable a Dart would be either:

So how are Manchester going to manage to lose the rumoured 13 ALX300s then? Efficency savings from moving out of Princess Rd to Ancoats?

(Unless you mean you don't know Gez, but that isn't like you....)

Does anyone know how long the Leyland's have got left? It Can't be long now surely all they are doing is doing runs on Staff Shuttle's every day!

If what I've heard is true, could be by end of April. That's on the basis of 16330, 16351/3, 16441 and 16870 making the move to Lillyhall as rumoured. 16441 and 16870 are in use at Carlisle for the time being, due to various bus shortages.

Personally, I'd rather have the Leylands than some of the Volvo crap around here. Ok, the Leylands are old, a little damp and smelly, but they're the last proper buses still in service, and still move very well, as evidenced by 14257 this afternoon on a staff shuttle. They're the only buses in Stagecoach North West that have some character to them. After almost 21 years solid service, the H reg ones have certainly done a good service. There's buses around that aren't even 10 years old yet that can barely stay in service (Solo's), the Leylands just keep going and going :D

One of the Prima's was off on a different route today.

2 of the 6 Primas are used on different routes every day. They are normally stuck on the 306. The PVR is 4 and 1 for the peak X85 but they normally stick something else on that. If one brakesdown on the 685 during the day they wont pull a Coach off a route they will just put a B10BLE with a tacho on from the depot or another route.

The only buses with tachos that can be used on the 685 from Jesmond depot are Renowns 4501/13/15 and ALX300 bodied 4522. Before withdrawl in the summer Olympian 7376 did a round trip to Hexham and 7420 has also done a journey. 2 Optare Solos from Darlington (2824/5) have just moved to Jesmond and they tachos as well but very unlikely they would ever visit Carlisle. Generally, there will be 1 B10BLE on the 685 every day. At the start of the week 1201 was off with a faulty tacho while 1204 was off with electrical faults.

I like the photo of the Dart in Newcastle on the 685. They used to be used on the Hexham only run on a Sunday without fail but its always Enviros & B10M's these days!

33076 & 33162 on 67/68
20977 on 79/179
16637 or 8 on short 685.

20960 on the 685 at around 17.00 with 34048 joining 33076 & 33162 on the 67/68.

Arriva always seem in a bit of a pickle with the 685! Shame Stagecoach North East don't operate it. The Prima's don't do much for Arriva image-wise, rather tatty looking. Never looks good when the steps bend down when passengers are getting on/off

Not sure you are being totally fair there. Carlisle do not operate it at a higher level then Arriva, they are both useless. Stagecoach stock on the 685 is known to be unreliable as well. The Primas are pretty comfy still and have been fantastic over the years but like any bus are staring to get a bit worn. Dont see what good Stagecoach North East operating the 685 would do? They arent exactly brilliant at anything. It is ideal North West operating it for the 2 early journeys that would otherwise not be ran from Carlisle to Newcastle and the last Carlisle from Hexham that again would not be operated. Thing were easier for Arriva when it was worked out of the now closed Hexham depot which is between the 2 terminus.

Forgot to say Stagecoach time keeping on the 685 is rather poor as well.

Closed isn't quite the right word, given it is still very much open, albeit in the hands of Go North East.

Nothing like being picky! My point was that Arriva moving the 685 to Jesmond has not helped route 685 in any shape or form really apart from some later journeys back to Newcastle that are not very well used and earlier buses out of Newcastle which again, the 1st one from Eldon Square is not known for being busy.

Noticed the symbol showing it as an LF route on the website has recently been removed, even though it was the first town service in Workington to be advertised low floor back in september 2008, with the arrival of 47023/4. For people not from the area, it was also when 50, 50A, 51 and 51A were all re-organised into just 50 and 51, the published changes at the time even stated that low floor easy access buses would be used on the route when the changes were put into effect.

PVR card attached. This is NOT an official document and is for a guide only.

34214 out on the 61/61A
33162 back on the pit for a change

17013 repainted in the main shed.

47759 just left the paintshop when I was there. The other 2 Solos still there.

34709 on the chassis wash with new side panels but still showing rear damage and missing panels.

16870 was paked behind 20966 with 16441 beside.
