I don't think anyone has. It smacks to me more of grumbling that a disabled person's friend can travel with a disabled person for free. The horror.
Why should somebody get free bus travel just because they happen to have a disabled mate who could travel alone and has the time on his hands to facilitate free travel for able-bodied friends?
Did you complain to the operator? What was the outcome?Indeed, but that is still assistance. Which IME isn't always forthcoming, more so on the railways these days to be fair, but certainly my experience in the past is that it was surprising how many bus ramps were "broken" or the driver "had a bad back" or the bus was "full".
I haven't advocated that. I have advocated limiting companion passes to those who can't travel alone.It seems a lot of work to have designated companions, all to clamp down on an "abuse" which is self-limiting anyway. Unlike with blue badge abuse, the disabled person actually has to travel.
