Hearing a substantial amount of overheards brought down north of lockerbie blocking both lines
extensive damage spread over a distance of approx. 800m confirmed with damage either side of Murthat OHNS and also the NS itself.
Not too far from Beattock.Where is this please? Not too familiar with shortened names

Murthat is the neutral section north of Lockerbie.

What a pity they can't divert via Dumfries any more.
Has ticket acceptance been put in place with LNER to travel to Glasgow via Edinburgh? I'm a bit confused by the working on journeycheck. My booked service to Glasgow has been cancelled north of Preston.

Lovely, thank you; didn't think to check NRE. King's Cross instead of Euston it is then. This is the ticket acceptance currently listed on https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/300836.aspx
Platform Capacity, I would guess. Only 3 platforms available at Carlisle for Pendolinos, you have more available at Preston. Is there a reason they are turning services around at Preston when the issues are far north of Carlisle? They could surely run that far? (Or is it convenience for them at the loss of passenger convenience, as per usual?)
3 platforms at Carlisle is more than enough for 1 or 2 Pendolinos per hour if needed, certainly they seem to manage fine during engineering blockades on the northern quarter of the WCML.Platform Capacity, I would guess. Are those 390’s heading back south anytime soon?
They say London Euston on them, but don’t seem to be heading anywhere. Perhaps crews out of place or hours now?3 platforms at Carlisle is more than enough for 1 or 2 Pendolinos per hour if needed, certainly they seem to manage fine during engineering blockades on the northern quarter of the WCML.
Keep the Via Brum at Preston, send the hourly express up to Carlisle, room for 1 TPE per hour too if needed.
It certainly seems a lot more logical, and it allows for an easier transfer to Newcastle and then LNER up to Edinburgh.
It sounds like this will be down for at least the day, if not longer

Possibly crewing related? Don't they change at Preston (on Avanti, at least)Is there a reason they are turning services around at Preston when the issues are far north of Carlisle? They could surely run that far? (Or is it convenience for them at the loss of passenger convenience, as per usual?)
You also need drivers, and at some point trains will start running north again. Although a Steam train turning up won't help! Bear in mind you've also got TPE services to/from Manchester Airport to manage.3 platforms at Carlisle is more than enough for 1 or 2 Pendolinos per hour if needed, certainly they seem to manage fine during engineering blockades on the northern quarter of the WCML.

The Tyne valley route is pretty slow, if you can intercept people further South and get them onto Crosscountry or TPE it'd be better. It certainly seems a lot more logical, and it allows for an easier transfer to Newcastle and then LNER up to Edinburgh.
Virgin was perfectly capable of running Class 57s on various diversions.Back in BR days it would be a diesel on the front and off via the G&SW - isn't the privatised railway wonderful!
The fact they haven’t arranged ticket acceptance with Scotrail up the GSW seems ridiculous!Back in BR days it would be a diesel on the front and off via the G&SW - isn't the privatised railway wonderful!

I've no idea if they did it on an emergency basis, but the point was it's not beyond the capability of the privatised railway to do so if it so wished. There's also nothing to suggest BR wouldn't have dropped the practice in exactly the same manner had it survived into the MU era of WCML operations. But did they though (on an emergency basis not on a planned diversion)
There aren't just a fleet of 221s sitting in a Shed somewhere, with a mess room of drivers all waiting to spring into action. Trying to get the various 221s which might be spread between London, Birmingham, Crewe, Shrewsbury, Glasgow, and enough drivers who know the GSW might well take until tomorrow. You've got to make sure the train and driver have a plan for the rest of the day, not just for one schedule. Glasgow Central isn't a car park, and drivers aren't allowed to sit in the cab indefinitely. How long would it take to get a few 221’s up to Preston and then run them up via the GSW? Surely quicker than arranging all this acceptance and buses!
Numerous train loads off Pendos, Voyagers and Novas onto a 2 car (maybe 4?) 156 is going to work swimmingly well. May be part of the reason they haven't done soThe fact they haven’t arranged ticket acceptance with Scotrail up the GSW seems ridiculous!
The only problem then that there were a number of sections that had been (short-sightedly) reduced to single track. Haven't been back there for yonks now, so don't know how much remains single ? But the trains were diverted back then, got a bit delayed waiting paths, but managed to get through okay eventually.Back in BR days it would be a diesel on the front and off via the G&SW - isn't the privatised railway wonderful!
