I'm sure I've seen on these forums how to change/make reservations when you already have tickets, but can't find the right thread.

I already have (off-peak) tickets for a journey on Avanti, purchased from Railsplit, but wish to see if I can change the reservations - we were assigned two seats nowhere near each other.

I can't change the reservations on the Avanti website because I didn't buy the tix there. Railsplit doesn't seem to offer any way to change things either. Any ideas how to go about getting new reservations?

Thanks for your help!

Its unlikely that any ticket retailer would choose to issue seats apart from each other unless that was the only option given by the underlying reservations system which is common to all retailers. Trainsplit certainly tries to seat passengers together if this is possible.

Avanti services are set to reservations mandatory in the timetable data and often end up fully reserved.

Asking them on Twitter has always worked for me whenever I've had need to.
Sounds like it's worth a try. I was hoping to click seats on one of those graphical representations.

That was what I was thinking, but thought that if it's easy to double check then it would be worth my while. I suppose that on the day we could see what reservations haven't been taken up and/or ask somebody if they were willing to swap seats.

They don't. On a Pendolino, coach C is unreserved. On an 11-car, U is as well. I forget about Voyagers.

That a given train isn't on sale doesn't mean it's physically full.

Ok fair point, I've used the term "fully reserved" to mean every possible reservable seat has been reserved. Given that ticket selling websites almost exclusively sell against an itinerary, at least in the outward direction, this is what matters.

The OP is asking about reservations for a ticket bought online. While it may be useful for them to know that coach C / U are not reservable, that isn't going to help them get seat reservations together.
