Like I said in my previous post, Boris had to go. But at the same time, I would say those people who sought to interpret everything he did/said in a bad way actually got much of his character and beliefs very wrong.
With Boris's long chronicled history of selfish arrogance and incompetence, that would make for a very long list...soon to be added to by the UK electorate at the next GE.

In the interim, please feel free to provide evidence of a Boris "success "....the toxic legacy of the "oven ready deal " with Brexit is far, far from over and never will be...Covid ?....the credit for the vaccine and the roll out goes to those directly involved...NOT Boris as he likes to claim given how late was he in imposing sanctions initially, possibly due to a certain horse race event, and thereafter came the revelation some of his best chums could swell their personal and business bank accounts with some very dodgy deals...Ukraine ?..ongoing, sadly, and will be for an infinite period...true, the UK has given military assistance, but, was remarkably reticent , well not really given Patel was involved, to commence humanitarian aid.

He's abuse his position in a manner unprecedented by any other PM...

Remember there are multiple rounds of voting until they're down to the last two - even if the anti-Rishi vote is spread out, it doesn't automatically hand him the win, especially if the rest of them form into an anyone-but-Rishi grouping in the final three candidates.
For sure, but Steve Baker has called this out also for the same reason …..

According to the Horseshoe Theory, those on the far-left and far-right are closer to each other on many points of view than either is to the centre ground.
I disagree with this theory in the sense that I believe there are lots of 'lefts'.

For example I believe in more equality of education and health etc regardless of background and wealth. And more co-operation with scientists and gov'ts worldwide in existential threats we face such as climate/nuclear/pandemics.

Also I think more can be done to have better regulations regarding extremely dubious and frankly criminal people from investing here. And call a spade a spade when it comes to war crimes and oppression regardless whether they are our allies or not, seeing the hypocrisy of people going ballistic over someone else's war crimes (rightly so) but saying not very much about what our 'friends' or even we have done.

I know it's all a bit utopian but apparently I'm classed as 'far left'. Having said that there are people on the left that are so anti imperialism that they end up supporting some very unsavoury characters, I also disagree with them.

That doesn't make you far left.

Latest betting market: nearly level pegging between Sunak and Morduant at about 5/2 each, Truss at 13/2, Tugendhat 9/1 and the rest long shots.

Back to thinking it'll be Mordaunt vs Sunak in the final 2 and I would expect Mordaunt to win that (based on Truss's lack of current supporters).

Truss will have to try and take down Mordaunt somehow (and cut some deal with the ERG and get Braverman's supporters after she is eliminated).

In a Sunak vs Mourdant run-off I think Mourdant will win because there seems to be a brewing smear campaign against Sunak that over the course of 6 weeks will likely damage his chances, and Mourdant doesn't really have much dirt on her as yet, besides a poorly done campaign video, helped by not being a major associate in Johnson's Cabinet.

My thinking is that, should it get to Morduant at no.3 with Sunak and Truss left to slug it out, she'll 'recommend' her supporters to vote for Sunak. Similarly, if Patel is left high and dry, her fellow Hindu may get the nod, particularly if Truss is the opponent. Patel wouldn't forgive Truss for having been a raving Remainer at heart.

I’d expect at least two of the declared candidates to fail to get 20 nominees, and at least another 4 to be either eliminated or to have withdrawn after the first round of voting.

Just seen Mordaunt's campaign video.
I just watched it too. Struggling to find SWF words to describe it - a certain type of Japanese fetish video comes to mind for some reason.
According to a new poll of Conservative Home readers Mordaunt and Badenoch are the two favourites.
The former I can maybe believe, but the latter? Next to zero name recognition.

With respect, this post exactly proves my point about, trying to interpret everything Boris does in a bad light. You've actually pointed out two of the successes - Ukraine, and the Covid vaccines - and then promptly made up excuses to discount both of them. Well obviously, if every time something succeeds, you find an excuse to discount or ignore it, then you're going to conclude that nothing he did was successful!

How, precisely, does the Covid vaccine roll-out qualify as a success that's attributable to Boris? What did he do that others would or could not?

And, before you quote his line about the "Fastest vaccine roll-out in Europe" consider that, while it initially was faster than most EU-member countries, they very quickly caught up and overtook us in terms of numbers.

Badenoch is 14/1 in the market, last of the midfield runners. Behind her are the rank outsiders (Hunt, Javid, Zahawi, Patel, Braverman, and Shapps with the tail light trotting in at well over 100/1).

Badenoch is getting notable support in The Spectator and The Telegraph, probably the favourite papers of party members. The fact is though that the party will want someone who can convince swing voters to vote for them in the next election, and Badenoch doesn't have much experience in Government. If other MPs don't think she can win an election, they'll not let her get to the final 2, likewise for other candidates not seen as election winners.

He was at the centre of the best sitcom ever: the 48 hours leading up to his resignation, a sitcom that would have stopped Yes Minister and Fawlty Towers ever getting off the ground had this happened at the same time ;)

Will Badenoch be able to secure twenty MP nominations though? Apparently even Javid may be struggling with that figure. Braverman must be hoping Patel doesn't enter the fray too - Steve Baker might have excellent ERG credentials, but his stock has declined because he couldn't get elected to the 1922 committee, and he's Braverman's Campaign Manager.

Will Zahawi actually put himself forward, knowing that to do so will guarantee a further slew of negative back-stories? I hope he does, he's the most oleaginous of the whole bunch, and I'd love to see him squirming.

Is this class 87 "the wolf of badenoch" of which you speak?

As alluded to, anyone with a quarter of a brain could do either. Before breakfast.

Oh my God this bunch of degenerate creeps and Thatcherite fantasists are almost making me pine for the simple days of Boris Johnson.

Theresa May?!

The only party where the next leader is always worse than the previous!
