The Barking Riverside extension of the London Overground will open to passengers next Monday – 18th July, TfL has confirmed. Just last month, TfL said that it was bringing the opening forward from this autumn to sometime this summer, and has now confirmed the opening date as next Monday.
Although the station opens on Monday 18th July, the line will close on its first weekend, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 July due to Network Rail works along the Gospel Oak to Barking (GOBLIN) branch of the London Overground, after which the station will be open seven days a week.
"TfL has announced" "TfL confirms".... yet the various sources ** of this information never link to anything from TfL. How exactly does TfL announce to these chosen sources ?? I'm not doubting the information, just curious how TfL disseminates it.
** My London, RailBusinessDaily, Ian Visits, etc etc.
I assume at some point that press release will get uploaded to the TfL website for the world to see.
The new 4.5km stretch of railway will connect the new development of Barking Riverside to Barking town centre in seven minutes
The extension of London Overground to a brand-new station at the heart of Barking Riverside will open to customers in one week (Monday 18 July) providing new quicker, easier and sustainable journey options to this key regeneration area.
The new station at Barking Riverside is fully step-free, bringing the total across the London Overground network to more than 60 stations, helping make London a more accessible city for everyone and support people's independence when travelling in London.
Is the GOBLIN now the GOBRIN? Asking the important questions here.
The TfL ‘Press releases’ section of the website doesn’t appear to be a full exhaustive list of their press releases, these are located on the “PRGloo” website which is closed for the public. For reasons that are not clear to me, the TfL Press Office seems to hold back on getting it uploaded to TfL’s own website usually until 10:30 - 11:30 so few hours after everyone else has reported it. Could you imagine if they waited 3 hours to upload a service update to website, so the thinking behind this needs to be explained to me.
Start here http://www.railwaycodes.org.uk/elrs/_mileages/b/bkr.shtm hope that helpsApologies if they're already in this thread, but what are the distances (miles & chains) between:
Tilbury Line Junction East and Barking Riverside Up Junction,
Riverside Up Junction and Ripple Lane West Junction,
Ripple Lane West Junction and Barking Riverside.
The London Overground “lines” (or should that be “routes”) have now been officially named. It is now the “Gospel Oak to Barking Riverside route”.
GOBLER?
GOB-RER?
The up and down halves of the junction are quite well separated by distance, but the down junction is grade separated and conflict free, so does that perhaps mean trains don’t need to be timed there?I'm planning on going to Riverside on 18th (having missed Crossrail's big day - though I hope to be there for the first day of through running).
Apologies if they're already in this thread, but what are the distances (miles & chains) between:
Tilbury Line Junction East and Barking Riverside Up Junction,
Riverside Up Junction and Ripple Lane West Junction,
Ripple Lane West Junction and Barking Riverside.
I see that Barking Riverside Up Junction is a timing point on RTT for trains from Barking Riverside but not trains to Barking Riverside. Could someone explain that to me, please, thanks.
Has a detailed track diagram for the Riverside extension been published, and if so, could someone post a link.
Thanks for any information - much appreciated.
LOL! Well it was the Embargoed line until this morning. Not to be confused with Bargoed BGD on the Rhymney Valley "route". [currently a global warming hotspot...]EMBARGO (Electric Metro from BArking Riverside to Gospel Oak)
I hope Wales doesn't get so hot that it expands, or the size of everything in the world will have to be recalibrated.LOL! Well it was the Embargoed line until this morning. Not to be confused with Bargoed BGD on the Rhymney Valley "route". [currently a global warming hotspot...]

Customers making essential journeys should check before they travel and always carry water
Transport for London is advising customers to only travel if essential on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 July, due to the high temperatures forecast.
TfL will work hard to keep as many services running as possible and is carrying out enhanced inspections to mitigate the impact of the extreme weather.
Service currently suspended because of signal failure at Walthamstow Queens Road.So the GOBLIN along with the ELL are planned to operate normally today and Tuesday on the Overground network despite the weather conditions, which just happens to coincide with the opening of Barking Riverside.
Barking Riverside is incorrectly shown with an interchange symbol on the line diagrams
The PDF version of the map linked in post 173 does indeed show an interchange to the pier.Barking Riverside does have a river pier so maybe that is what the interchange blob is for?
