That's the problem with the Northern at the moment. Its resources are spread relatively evenly between the two routes, when in practice the Bank branch is far busier. Even then though, the Bank branch isn't exactly the busiest stretch on the Underground; the Central, District, Piccadilly, Victoria and possibly Jubilee are all busier.

Off-peak, I would propose a 16tph frequency on the Bank branch, with 9 continuing to High Barnet, 3 terminating at Finchley Central, and 6 continuing to Mill Hill East (bringing it back into mainstream service); on the Charing Cross branch, I would again say 16, with alternate service terminating at Golders Green (giving 8 to Edgware). Would this be sufficiently busy, or am I missing something?

As for names...

I feel that the Charing Cross route should keep the Northern name. Firstly, if the Bank branch keeps it, the most southerly station is still on the Northern; surely this would be a chance to change that? Secondly, the Charing Cross branch uses an easy but pivotal route axis through London that is effectively the North-South version of the Central. And thirdly, assuming there are no religious issues, I feel that the name "Angel Line", coloured white in the style of the former National Rail routes on the Tube Map, would go well with the Bank branch.

My prefered choice of name for a separated Bank branch of the Northern line, taking account of the precedent set by the Jubilee line for honouring royal occassions and also the esteem in which we all hold bankers (don't forget this goes through the heart of the City of London), is the WC line!;)

What about the "Barden" and "Edgesea" lines, using the "Baker Street and Waterloo railway" example?

Royal Catharine Line and Royal William Line then they are. As it is, there aren't enough LU lines named after rich German monarchs. ;) "We are very pleased."

What about the "Barden" and "Edgesea" lines, using the "Baker Street and Waterloo railway" example?

I had earlier come up with Batterware and Highmord, as quaintly violent-sounding, "endearing" names. Let's think outside the box!

You can't choose something along the lines of "Edgesea"; it's been done already. A second Bakerloo-esque name wouldn't be original. That's one eason I proposed "Angel". Another one could be "Elm", with a pale green colour scheme, as taken from the new extension through Nine Elms, and possibly something to do with the penultimate station at the other end of the line - Burnt Oak.

..."Trees" wouldn't work, would it?

The Bank branch could be the City & South London (hey didn't someone come up with that 100 years ago?)

Then what about the bit extending as far north from the City of London as to the south...? ;) Only reverse to the ages old whine about Northern Line not being "northern" enough.

To uphold the certain pomposity as well as tradition, why not simply retain the Morden to Barnet line as, hmm, Northern Line? (With the name meaning rather the north-to-south axis of the system that it occupies.) Or as Northern City Line, another old acquaintance.

As for the Edgware to Battersea, I'm blank. Concise yet descriptive...

Where's the consistency, Mojo? It can't be City & South London these days! It has to be South London & City!

I'd like to see the faces on the average Barnet commuter when he realises that he is on a line called the SOUTH London & City (kinda like Morden now I guess...)!
