Interesting.
I think it was the previous administration that issued directives to newspapers and the BBC to "big Britain up" at all costs; they're both fairly easily manipulated, newspapers get threatened with imposition of VAT on their cover price and the BBC is told the existence of the licence fee will be "reviewed" if they fail to play ball.
Almost as if the government wanted to try and kid everyone that things weren't actually as bad as they were?
