The idea of this thread came from a discussion on the 'Historical SWR inter-city' thread on the History and Nostalgia forum.

Namely, what is the highest consecutive numbers of stations you have visited on one line? When I say 'visited', this can include: a) actually using the station as a destination; b) visiting the station by train for rail enthusiast purposes; or c) using the station to change trains and leaving the station while waiting for your next train, so you walk into the station's surrounding area. Also, a variation: what is the highest consecutive number with just one omission?

I will start with Fleet to Southampton Central inclusive, 12 consecutive stations, or Portsmouth Harbour to Southampton Central inclusive, 16 consecutive stations, neither of which are that impressive. However if the 'just one omission' rule is applied (in my case Millbrook is the one omission) then it becomes Fleet to Poole, 26 stations discounting Millbrook. (I am about 90% sure on Poole btw; I'm fairly sure I've used it, in the 90s sometime: if not, it becomes 25).

Or, if we allow any routes, even those without direct trains, then I believe I have used every station from Portsmouth Harbour to Poole via Fareham (which did have through trains for a few years in the 90s) except Millbrook, which would make 30.

Fairly poor in comparison, but have used Horley, Gatwick Airport, Three Bridges, Balcombe, Haywards Heath, Wivelsfield, Burgess Hill and Hassocks on the Brighton Main Line, but not Salfords or Preston Park. So that's eight.

Omitting Preston Park would enable the list of BML stations to be extended to Brighton which I have been to. (Could one then also include Hove, which is on a separate line?)

On the Manchester Metrolink, I've alighted/boarded trams at every station in between Altrincham and the City Centre and then out to Holt Town (on the Ashton-under-Lyne) line, which I think is sixteen stations in total.

On the West Coast Main line, each of Carlisle, Penrith, Oxenholme, Lancaster, Preston, Wigan North Western, Warrington Bank Quay. Which is just seven. Never boarded/alighted at Lockerbie or Acton Bridge.

I don't "do" visits for the sake of it so:
Leeds and Bradford to Skipton - all.
Victoria to Orpington and Holborn V/City TL to Otford - all except Bellingham (mostly many years ago!).

Yes, that would count, as long as it is possible to do the entire journey by public passenger train, including changes. For example, with one more station visit (Bedhampton or Millbrook) I could potentially claim Godalming to Poole via Havant and Fareham (as I've used all except these two).

Every station between St Pancras and West Sutton via Forest Hill and West Croydon will be mine. 19 stations (plus a closed one if Kings Cross Thameslink is valid)

I have never used Welham Green or Chester le Street but have used all from Hatfield to Darlington which is 21 stations. I have also done Selby before the diversion was built, which takes it up to 22.

And if I can go via Cambridge then I can replace the 5 stations between Hitchin and Peterborough on the main line with the 14 stations on the Cambridge diversion, which takes it up to 31.

Every station from London Waterloo - Kingston (via Richmond) as well as London Waterloo - Virginia Water via Hounslow and via Richmond.

I believe that’s 28 stations in total.

I can do 20: Seaford via Brighton to West Worthing - I think this counts as one line as there used to be a Seaford-West Worthing train.

Will have to be Southeastern metro for me - I've got off at every station between Victoria - Orpington (via Penge East) at least once in the past. I could also extend to Sevenoaks, as once I got off at Knockholt too but I can't remember why! So that's 17 in total.

Not quite the same, but back in my signal box bashing days I visited every one of the 18 signal boxes between Stanley Junction and Inverness Locomotive apart from Culloden (which we couldn't find) in one day.

On routes with through trains passing it is probably 13. Dalton – Wigan North Western and Carluke – Warrington Bank Quay. The latter being 13 if you include Newton-le-Willows and I think at least 1 Avanti service is routed that way.

I've also travelled everywhere on the Victoria to Orpington train and also to Chelsfield.
Norwich to Brentwood (15).
13 each from Ely to Stevenage or Sawbridgeworth.

I have alighted at every station between
Hamilton Central and Westerton (inc) giving a total of 16

Omit Airbles and therefore Motherwell, Whifflet, Coatbridge Central, Greenfaulds(I think I got off before?) and Cumbernauld become added to the list, therefore giving a total of 21 stations

London Marylebone - Aylesbury Vale Parkway (11, if London Underground doesn't count)
Paddington - Elephant & Castle (11)
Baker Street - Paddington via Liverpool Street (26 - omitting Mansion House)

Hereford - Lydney via Worcestershire Parkway (11 - omitting Ashchurch for Tewkesbury)
Bicester North - Leighton Buzzard via Coventry (12 - omitting Long Buckby)
Durham - Huntingdon (10 - omitting Retford; if backtracking is allowed, I can add Stamford, Oakham, Melton Mowbray, Corby and Kettering)
Glasgow Central - Alexandra Parade via Partick and Bellgrove (10)

Across the years I've had need to use every station between Hereford - Worcester- Kidderminster- Birmingham Snow Hill multiple times, including Smethwick West.

Every station between Wolverhampton - Birmingham New Street and Walsall

Every station between Sutton Coldfield - Birmingham New Street- Redditch.

Longton to Llanfair PG is, I think, 19. (If Gaerwen was still open it would be 20, and Etruria would make it 21)

With one gap (Penkridge) and thanks to the closure of Norton Bridge, Aston to Llanfair PG - 24.

I’ve visited/used fulfilling the criteria all WCML stations between Glasgow Central and Warrington Bank Quay (I’ve never used Acton bridge or Winsford, otherwise it would be most as far as Rugby)

That makes 17 if I am counting correctly! (Glasgow Central, Cambuslang, Uddingston, Motherwell, Shieldmuir, Carluke, Carstairs, Lockerbie, Carlisle, Penrith, Oxenholme, Lancaster, Preston, Leyland, Euxton Balshaw Ln, Wigan NW, Warrington BQ)

What about Newton? Is that WCML or nah as the trains pass directly behind but not through.

I’ve been and explored (well, the car park!) there too, so if needed, that can be 18!

I suppose Newton and Euxton Balshaw Lane are in similar positions, not “officially” on the WCML, but very much on adjacent lines and the WCML is clearly visible from both.

At various times I've used all the stations Carmarthen to Crewe via the Heart of Wales line. 41 I think? Some services on this line have run to Carmarthen and Crewe in the past and still some to Carmarthen now when the normal timetable is running. We used to go rambling from the stations on this line. Get off at one, walk to the next for the train home. Very enjoyable!

I've never seen Newton (Le Willows, I guess) station, I presume it's between Warrington and Wigan?

Doesn't the main WCML divert well away from it? I have clearly seen Euxton Balshaw Lane though, the WCML does seem to pass through it.

Newton (Lanarkshire) between Glasgow and Motherwell.

The Newton-le-willows line passes over the WCML though they are fairly close too

The only one I can think of is the Jubilee Line - having used every station between Stratford and Baker Street apart from Bermondsey, that being 13 stations.

Stratford
West Ham
Canning Town
North Greenwich
Canary Wharf
Canada Water
Bermondsey (OMITTED)
London Bridge
Southwark
Waterloo
Westminster
Green Park
Bond Street
Baker Street

Also just realised I've done a good portion of the Victoria Line, that coming to 10 stations.

Vauxhall
Pimlico (OMITTED)
Victoria
Green Park
Oxford Circus
Warren Street
Euston
Kings Cross St Pancras
Highbury and Islington
Finsbury Park
Seven Sisters
