Hi all. I have a query regarding the assessments. I passed stage 1 with EMR a couple of years ago. They only required national standard and I’m aware that TPE require enhanced. Does anyone know if companies that require national only grade your test national if you pass, or if you actually achieved enhanced, would it be marked as having passed to an enhanced standard? Hope that makes sense.

I’ve thought the same as recently passed all assessments for a company that only requires standard but how would you know if you apply for another which required enhanced?
Do you need to contact OPC?

Contact TPE recruitment, say you've passed the assessments and ask if you've met the standard?

"Enhanced" is not a standard and varies from each TOC. That's what I was told when I asked prior to assessment previously.

You provide your national insurance number during the application so they'll check your Phsyc results at that point.

You must have missed the part that says “*You must live within a 60 minute commutable distance from the location you are applying for. Evidence of proof residence will be requested at interview stage.”

They are obviously fed up of people applying with addresses that they cannot provide proof of.

So I'm no where near this (Live down in the South West) - could I still apply put put in a cover letter somewhere that I'm fully willing to move close to the depot or something similar? Or does that just not work lol

I did for TPE from London and told them I was re-locating and I got the job, so would advise yes despite what others are telling you.

In the advert it says:

For the first 9 to 12 months you will undertake an intensive training programme based in the class room and on the train

So guessing 24k is before fully qualified/passing out

As others have mentioned you will receive full drivers salary of £58k after 8 weeks of training, this has been the case for about 2 years now.

Start date is in 7 weeks, whilst im sure some would be happy to move cities at the drop of a hat at the moment its taking about that long to move into a new home.

I am afraid that previous applicants have let you down. TPE's fingers have been burnt severely with drivers (both trainee and qualified) joining the business on a promise to move then not doing so.
Which has resulted in transfers increasing the losing depots training burden and existing drivers there having to pick up the slack.
Also, more than a few have put in 'welfare moves' once they have completed their training. And ASLEF are backing those rather than the many drivers that have to pick up that slack.

I think this is the way TPE are going to go now having been let down so many times.

The tests are very quick to do, also I would recommend doing them while you are fresh and alert. If you are tired after work you may make mistakes.

Thanks I understand that I also have a new born so don’t always know when I can sit down at the moment if I finish one can I complete the other a bit later or does it have to be back to back thanks

As I understand it, they’re not “graded” as enhanced or national standard passes, but these will be shared and thus allow any other TOCs cross to reference these with their own standard. As others have said, there’s no clear benchmark so to speak, between national and enhanced, and is based on what TOCs/FOCs accept.

Thanks for all the replies Atish you make a very fair but however this is something that I have carefully considered and spoken to my partner about if I was to be successful the family understand the commitment that I will have to make and support me doing so, it’s only fitting this around my current position that is difficult it would be different if this was my full time position.

For both initial tests youre talking less than an hour for both.

The latter test has a 10 minute fixed time limit.

Given the test dates and the previous release of practice material with 2-3 weeks notice I'd imagine they really need to be letting people know this week. 14 days is or less to prep (unless they have enough that have already passed them) is cutting it very fine.

Being honest the material was good to read through, but the only thing you can really practice to test standard is the group bourdon.

Correct, it’s typically a minimum of 7 days but can be less too.
