This is isn't a mishearing in my view because I believe it's what Alison Moyet actually sings

I go wee, I go wee, I go wee, I go wee
Weak in the presence of beauty

In other words she only pronounces the 'k' in the last line.

Just watched the video promo again and I'd swear to it.
No no no, she goes ‘eek’ in the presence of beauty.

Left To My Own Devices by the Pet Shop Boys.

What he sings - for in a secret life I was a Roundhead general

What I thought for years that he was singing - for in a secret life I was a randy general

Until a couple of years ago, me and my sister didn’t realise that the main lyric in the chorus to “Missing” by Everything But The Girl was in fact “like the desert’s missed the rain”. Previously we thought it was “like a desert mystery”.

Fun fact: Parts of the music video for that song were shot outside Balham Tube station.

My 7-year old grand-daughter at Christmas time on hearing an American woman singing a song asked her dad....."Who is Sanner Claws"?"

Yanks and their pronunciations, and accented syllables of whichever word ! (It would appear to me, that accent-on-the-syllable goes by no discernible rules, re one nation and another: just that we and the Americans put the accent on a randomly-different syllable from each other, as often as not.)

Going off-topic altogether from Mondegreens: the syllable-accenting thing -- there comes to mind, the not-noticeably-child-friendly schoolmistress in The Simpsons: whose name, in my infrequent exposures to said cartoon show, I for long mentally processed as being Miss (or maybe Mrs.) "Ker-BAIRBB-lle" -- I finally tumbled to realising that the word was "Crabapple": she being a bit of a sour individual -- as my brother used to say, "Giggle ! Giggle ! Laugh ! Laugh !" ; sorry, I'm a write-off where popular culture is concerned.

Not quite misheard lyrics, but there are a few places in Dr Hook's "Freakin' at the Freaker's Ball" where you might think "Did I hear that right?". o_O

thought of another from 1979ish:
Squeeze - Cool for Cats
'The Sweeney's doing 90 because they've got the word to go'
We all though was:
'The Sweeney's doing 90 because they've got nowhere to go'
--
Another Pet Shop Boys one..
'In a West End town a dead end world'
I thought was:
'In a West End town a dead end wall'

Elton John: "Island Girl".
Instead of hearing him sing "Island Girl", I thought he was singing "I love girls", and thought that ship had long sailed long ago, Elton.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned this one's yet, but Independent Woman (Part 1) by Destiny's Child makes constant references to Alf Garnett.

That reminded me of Dolly Parton Islands in the Stream.
I hear, 'I love industry.'

The thing with Bart's teacher is a bit of a "Keeping Up Appearances" thing- her name was Crabapple, fitting as she was somewhat sour, but she insisted it should be said "Cra-BOP-el"... much like Hyacinth "Bouquet".

Thanks ! I basically don't "do" TV -- have only seen The Simpsons on odd random occasions. This thing with the lady concerned, more subtle than I'd imagined.

Similarly, when I heard Dire Straits' 'Industrial Disease' (album track, Love Over Gold) I thought it was 'Industry, industry!'

I thought it was that right up to seeing this post! (though thinking about it, the next line of the song would contradict it).

It sounds like "Ranté" to me. I thought this was some historical reference that I had not heard of.

"You've picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille,
With four hundred children and a cr*p in the field."

That one was made 'real' on one of Mark and Lard's classic cuts, as well as a few other cr@p, sorry CHOICE edits ;) Hard to believe they got away with some of the stuff these days :lol: Also hard to find records in that condition :D

When I first heard "Whole Again" (Atomic Kitten), I thought one of the lines sounded like "You can make my hole again".

My take on that one is:

”You've picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille,
Four hundred children and I cr*p in the field."

It must have been some argument for Lucille to take the toilet with her.

Even the girls in Atomic Kitten have a ‘grown up’ version of that song! It used to be sung at sound checks.

Stranglers:

Golden brown, texture like sun
Lays me down, with my mind she runs

My interpretation:

Golden brown, texture like sun
Lays me down, with my M*A*S*H* heroes

Coming to mind after hearing it last night: I think I may have thought that the Eagles' "Take It Easy" originally said "Windsor, Arizona" rather than "Winslow, Arizona".

But having listened like 50 times that's what it says - even if it wasn't what was intended, it's a mispronunciation not a mishearing surely?

Which song is that incidentally? And which line? Trying to think of anything which sounds like that from any of their songs...
