I'll throw a bomb into this with the fact that I only really like sweet potatoes!

Sweet potatoes are so rubbish compared to real potatoes, they shouldn't be allowed to share the name.

I'd purpose an alternative name "Infuber" to denote its inferiority to the real potato.

Other half can't stand them, I love them. It's the opposite way with swede though. We both have a dislike of turnips though.

Oops, should have read that more carefully, I thought that was a comment on parsnips.

However, certain activities might involve getting the taste of another's perfume. Fortuantely, not come across turnip fragrance yet. o_O

Eau de sprout, anyone? :E

I'm going to throw in an assortment of YouTube-related ones, some of which I might have mentioned before, I can't remember

YouTube videos which are filmed in a vertical orientation when there's no reason they couldn't be landscape

The YouTube phone app's tendency these days to display vertically-orientated videos in a bizarre dumbed-down interface where you can't skip back and forward

YouTubers who have animated text and/or a photo montage with some inane freely-licensed background music for 20 seconds before their video starts. Bonus marks for the cases where the intro almost the same length as the video itself!

YouTubers who promise to do something "if this video gets to 5000 likes"

YouTubers who encourage the audience to "smash the subscribe button" - if I did that, I'd break the screen, and still wouldn't have subscribed to your channel because my computer doesn't have a touch screen

I've got to strongly disagree with those disliking sweet potato, it's awesome! I'm actually really annoyed I've left one in my cupboard that will no doubt have gone too soft to use by the time I return to the house, waste of 38p but more importantly it's food waste which I try to avoid like the plague!

As for YouTubers, I have to agree on those going overboard on subscribing. By all means, gently persuade the viewer to subscribe if you feel it necessary (good content should not need that to be the case) but the 'smash the like and subscribe buttons' does annoy me more than it should. Same for those going on about the notification bell, no thanks, no need for that nonsense!

Any veg that has gone slightly past its best will still be good enough for a pot of soup, something which I make rather a lot of at this time of year.

I'm not overly keen on sweet potato, but I can tolerate it. I will join those who don't see the point of sweetcorn; I don't object to finding it mixed in with other things (not in a tuna sandwich, though), but not as a standalone vegetable serving.

Nothing wrong with a corn on the cob with butter melting on it.
As far as soup/stews, we had to manage without gas for a few days 2 years ago so went and bought a slow cooker. Never looked back as it is so useful for stews, just set it going in the morning and 8 hours later, prefect tender meats, (although lean beef can get a bit 'dry').

Oh no doubt, I've never made my own soup despite a foodie friend trying to persuade me to do so. I've had that sweet potato for days already, won't be back to it until late on the 27th so it might not be much good by then. My fault for forgetting I had it and being too lazy to cook it!

Worth bearing in mind that about the soup, now the weather's changing I might get to making one!

Some people don't celebrate Christmas...

Indeed. One of my best friends is Jehovah's Witness, and plenty of other people don't celebrate Christmas! I don't see the need for it personally, but for the sake of not ruining the family's Christmas I still have to partake in it whether I want to or not!

I've been using my Saturday morning to do coursework, much better use of my time!

While I understand that not everyone celebrates Christmas, myself included, 'Happy Holidays' is one of those Americanisms that seems to be taking hold over here and for that reason alone I'd ban it! :)

Speaking of terrible Americanisms, most Christmas movies. They still call them that by the way, interestingly enough....

A good xmas movie is the 1980s French one i saw a few days ago, I Believe in Santa Claus. While it has the usual xmas movie tropes (children, gifts, a few jolly songs) it also goes on a few strange directions including Santa being captured by rebels in Africa.

I would have thought that for most people, unless they have very small children, Christmas films (I will not use abbreviations, even if there is more historical grounds to the x than often thought, or americanisms) are the latest big one to appear on DVD in the supermarket. So this year it is No Time To Die.

It annoys a particular brand of conservative Christian (often the ones that seem very interested in what others do with their bodies), so for that reason alone I object to the ban.

Happy Winterfest, everyone! ;)

I'm fine with other versions, so long as others are fine with me saying Merry Christmas.

I'm 99.9% certain that you can count all the genuine objections to the phrase "Merry Christmas" in history without needing to take your socks off.
