Class 318 diagrams, can anyone advice please?
Should be fairly easy to work out by looking at RTT and tracing unit workings.Class 318 diagrams, can anyone advice please?
Yes, class 318 units have specific diagrams, but in practice they will work entirely interchangeably with class 320 diagrams.
As a general rule, they’ll be found on Airdrie-Balloch, Dalmuir-Springburn, Argyle Line (Dalmuir-Motherwell/Larkhall) Glasgow Central to Neilston/Newton and Inverclyde routes. Biggest concentration is on the Argyle Line.
Fantastic, thank you very much.Snapshot from RTT

There is no replacement plan in the public domain, nor does there particularly need to be, so you will have to continue to wonder.Wonder how long these have left in service ?

Class 318 Time Based Overhaul
Eversholt Rail have awarded Brodie Engineering a multimillion-pound contract to perform a time-based overhaul on our fleet of Class 318 Electric Multiple Units.
This contract is due to commence in November 2021 and will be a direct follow on from the highly successful Class 320 Time Based Overhaul Extra programme currently being undertaken at Brodie Engineering’s Bonnyton Works.
The scope of the work includes the safety critical overhaul of several components including traction equipment, doors, heating and ventilation systems as well as exterior re-livery.
The 21 Class 318’s, currently on lease to ScotRail, operate on various service lines in and around West Central Scotland.
Gerry Hilferty, Managing Director of Brodie Engineering said “We are delighted and extremely proud to have been awarded this contract. This reaffirms the collaborative working relationship that we have developed with Eversholt Rail over several years. This contract will retain jobs in East Ayrshire and provides us with a firm foundation to build upon, following our recent acquisition of neighbouring Caledonia Works”
Paul Sutherland, Client Relations Director at Eversholt Rail said “Following the successful delivery of the overhaul of our Class 320 fleet by Brodie Engineering, we are delighted to award this contract for works on our Class 318 fleet. We look forward to continuing to develop our collaborative working with Brodie Engineering and ScotRail to deliver safe and reliable trains back to Scotland’s passengers”
Syeda Ghufran, ScotRail Engineering Director, said “Safety is always our top priority, and we have every confidence this will prove to be another excellent partnership with Eversholt Rail and Brodie Engineering. This extensive overhaul of our fleet of Class 318 trains will greatly enhance the reliability and comfort we already provide customers travelling around the West Central Scotland area.”
Dougie Andrew, Transport Scotland Rolling Stock Programme Sponsor said “This is a welcome contract award which demonstrates our continued support for rail and funding for rolling stock is delivering wider benefits to local Scottish companies. This helps create and sustain jobs in the rail maintenance industry while bringing green benefits by re-engineering existing trains.”
still a good 5 years at least anyway. There’ll likely be a uniform fleet repleacement for suburban Glasgow replacing both the 318s and 320s and possibly 334s tooWonder how long these have left in service ?
To track down the 318s the easiest option would be to hang around Glasgow Central and Partick for a while, one or two will most likely show up.
You’ll definitely see less in Glasgow Central as they tend to work further out such as Gourock and Lanark. Thanks very much guys for all the info, very enlightening. I spent some time around Glasgow Central and Partick last weekend, I only saw 3 work into Central, but quite a few on the Partick lines, so this weekend I think Ill just try to ride any I see, thanks again.

These services are also shared with the 380 and 385.
They do, but it only seems to be two trains per day, 1107 Manchester and 1405 Liverpool southbound.I see, thank you.

Ill be on a Transpennine service on the club 55 ticket back to Manchester from Glasgow on sunday, but can`t seem to find any transpennine services, do they not operate on a sunday from Glasgow Central?
Ah thanks Ill get the 14.05 and change at Wigan thats great thank youThey do, but it only seems to be two trains per day, 1107 Manchester and 1405 Liverpool southbound.
Three northbound: 1324 arrival from Liverpool, 1841 from Manchester and 2133 from Liverpool.
Why not? They are worked fairly indiscriminately and there are 21 318s and 34 320s. Therefore, it isn't really surprising to find 318s paired with 320s. I imagine that if a snapshot was taken on a different day there could be more 318 pairs than there were yesterday. There are likely to be more 320 pairs than 318 pairs. Why are so many attached to a 320?
I was on a 380 to Neilston last saturday. Which depots are these units allocated too?318s and 320s on the Neilston are a more recent development. Used to get the odd 318 back in the early 2000s
Maintenance carried out at Shields Road but they’re stabled at Yoker, Shields Road & CorkerhillI was on a 380 to Neilston last saturday. Which depots are these units allocated too?

Yep, thats a daily thing. I think it's down to space at Yoker and Shields, the 318/320 can operate east of Airdrie but out of passenger service. Theres normally some 318/320 sitting at Bathgate on Sundays too.318267 and 8 stabled overnight at Bathgate and left for Airdrie this morning , not sure if this is a daily event
Out of curiosity - why can the 318/320 operate "Out of Passenger Service" - are you saying it can run the route but is not authorized to run picking up passengers - seems a bit strange if its cleared for the route? Just curious what the situation is?Yep, thats a daily thing. I think it's down to space at Yoker and Shields, the 318/320 can operate east of Airdrie but out of passenger service. Because of DOOOut of curiosity - why can the 318/320 operate "Out of Passenger Service" - are you saying it can run the route but is not authorized to run picking up passengers - seems a bit strange if its cleared for the route? Just curious what the situation is?
ie not having side mounted camerasBecause of DOO
The 334s are permitted to operate due to the fact they have cameras on the side. The 318/320 do not and the drivers need to use monitors or mirrors to see. The stations between Airdrie and Edinburgh are not fitted with these so they cannot run in passenger service. The sectional appendix says 320/4's are route barred but not 320/3 - So I assume 320/4's are the ones without the DOO equipment?

Cheers for the info - Didn't know Airdrie - Bathgate doesn't have mirrors or monitors (I guess omitted to save costs at the time)The 334s are permitted to operate due to the fact they have cameras on the side.
