No problem Fred, maybe i should have explained in my original post a little better :)

No, not at all.

I don't get angry about stories, of any sort, in the news. Most of it's blown out of proportion and is there to scare. I'm not interested.

The EDL - give over! They're a bunch of cretinous football hooligans desperately trying to pretend that they're something else! They have about as much credibility as a chocolate watch.

Who got arrested at the poppy demonstration for attacking the police? A muslim protestor? - No, step forward the founder of the English 'Defence' League! And it's not the first time he's assaulted the police either!

Good thing there isnt too many far right nut cases on this forum.:)

Indeed. I like the way TrainBrain185's views were robustly argued against :) Saved me the hassle ;) (I've come across the EDL and I won't describe what I think of them as the language would be unsuitable for use on this forum!)

Who says I am far right?? I used the EDL as an example. I am not a member, nor supporter, nor condone their actions, though as a counter-reaction to the increasing anti-British demonstations by our Islamic friends, I can certainly understand why they exist. So whats wrong with that view I have?
Look at the bigger picture with my views next time before you make flippant personal remarks.
I see no-one took the time to "robustly" agree with the first part of my message regarding the fortunate find of the bombs on the Freight Planes. But that figures. Your hassle was not saved enough Yorkie.

I'm a pacifist with no family members who have been involved in any conflict in the last hundred years, I strongly oppose both the wars in Afghanistan and in Iraq, as well as thinking that our involvement in WW1 (which the day is originally designed as rememberance for) was objectionable and wrong, as were many of the things we did in WW2. I neither observe nor care about this 2 minute silence thing myself. Yet I still find doing something like that tasteless and despicable.

^^Pathetic seems like a good word choice, yes.
Your very fabric of the freedom you enjoy today is through the sacrifice by the many brave men and women who lost their lives in all the conflicts of the passed century and in the years to come. You have me lost for words.

Why has my post been deleted when all I did is state a fact??
Don't fret over it. I have had posts deleted and been personally criticised by some folk on here. Its interesting reading how some folk react with tirades of personal remarks and round up a posse of support against someone who speaks what they think. Quite sad state of affairs, but find find it amusing already knowing which ones are going to react before they do.

Says someone who likes sticking his head out of Mk3 carriages between London and Paddington? Please don't throw stones at glass houses calling someone a nut case!

I always observe a two minute silence on both the 11th November at 11am and on Remembrance Sunday at the same time, alongside wearing a Poppy for at least 2 weeks in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday. As far as I am aware, I only have one family member who has ever fought in a recent (certainly in the last 100 years) war, but I observe it to show respect to all who fell in battle for our freedom, whether it was a 'legal' war or not.

RIP for all who have died in any war for our freedom, you have my upmost thoughts and respect.

So, how many of these have there been with a substantial number of people involved (ie, not just single or double figures) in the past few years then?

Trainbrain185, The "Islamic friends" you speak of are a tiny minority. The Muslim community is more disgusted by the actions of these few people than the majority are. They are sick and tired of these ignorant, mindless, brainwashed idiots making a mockery of Islam by doing things in the name of it and sprouting their drivel. It is always the same suspects aswell (in more than one sense of the word).

What you have to understand is these people are ignorant, mindless sheep. They do as they are told by the leaders of their groups. No intelligent person would allow themselves to be controlled as they do. Their leaders are certainly not ignorant. They know exactly what they are doing and know exactly how to manipulate their cronies, in turn manipulating public perception and perpetuate hatred.

Sad thing is, it seems that some people are just playing right into it.These extremist groups want seperation, they want to promote hatred, and if people play into it they are are just giving the extremists justification to act the same.

Correct. As I said, the only reason that this tiny minority of people undertake these stunts is that they believe it will gain them publicity (yes), outrage the right wing press (yes), further intolerance, hatred and violence (yes).

So, when you want to respond in kind, TrainBrain, you are in fact doing exactly what these people want, because if you, the EDL or anyone else stage a counter demo, or burn a Koran or anything like that, it will begin a spiral of action and counter action. The escalation of action into violence is then more or less inevitable, and the poppy burners will have won!

It's far better to ignore the pitiful and pointless actions of such a tiny number of people, despite the rantings of the papers.

Whilst I would love to agree with you, it is hard to ignore days like 9/11 and 7/7 which by all accounts were carried out by the same tiny number of people

And the US's response to 9/11? To invade a country which had nothing to do with it. I bet Al-Queda were loving that one.

Well, we could always invade more Muslim countries after each atrocity. But would that really help, or would the deaths of even more innocent civilians, albeit 'from the other side' simply inflame the situation and create even higher numbers of extremists?

The invasion sof Iraq and Afghanistan have merely increased the threat to the UK, the likelihood of atrocities and the numbers of Muslim extremists happy to die for their cause. Violence breeds violence, and it's not possible to achieve a military victory against terrorsits in any case. There is a growing acceptance of this with regard to Afghanistan.

Well I meant from my own point of view. I wasn't down in London on 7/7 but I know people that were close by and it wasn't fun for them even though they were not directly involved

And although I am mindful of what could happen, I don't walk around London or Birmingham staring at any foreign guy with a beard and a rucksack or any lady with her face covered, listening for ticking sounds :D

But in all seriousness, minority groups always cause issues for majority groups. Take that American Pastor (whose name I have conveniently forgotton) who wanted to burn the Koran and the responses reported to that - another minority causing issues for the majority.

Let us remember we had terrorism long before Muslim extremists showed up on the scene. Anyone remember the IRA? They blew up Canary Wharf did they not?

Yes, amongst many others. The threat from Provisional Irish terrorism was raised in September to 'substantial', though remains 'severe' in the province itself . If memory serves, there has been over thirty attacks or attempted attacks on national security targets since the start of the year by irish dissidents.

Firstly Paddington is in london ( I understand thats a typo) You must be something of a hypocrit, because first you moan about personal tirades, then you call me a nutter because I wrote something silly in my location box, its something called light hearted humor have you heard of it?

Actually, No. They tried to place a bomb at Canary Wharf and failed. But they did blow up South Quay with devastating effects.

I remember that. It was exactly a week after the only time I had (at that time) stood on the platform there.

You claim not be be far right, yet you're an apologist for the EDL. Hmm...

As for these 'increasing' anti-British demonstrations, your evidence for this is
what, exactly?

You bang on about freedom and sacrifice but you display no evidence of understanding what it is you're actually talking about. you make it sound like empty words.

The people who fought (and died) for this country did so to keep us free from from fascist idiots like the EDL and the Muslim extremists, but also be able to tolerate that dissent and rise above it. After all - they're really just different sides of the same coin. The fact that you praise one and condemn the other makes me feel you have little understanding of what liberal democracies are really all about - even though you spout on about the 'fabric of freedom'

I was living in the East End at the time, nearly a mile and a half away. We were sitting at home when the bomb went off and thought the living room window was going to come in on us. God knows what it must have been like living closer.

Yes, it was hypocritical of me, I admit. So therefore I sincerely apologise to you and thank you for your reply. Yes, atrocities are performed by more than just Muslims. The IRA, the Spanish ETTA groups had their moments too, as aleady mentioned in this thread and others. Bad as they did, nothing matches the ongoing war on terror by the Islam Religion too, in my opinion, to a far more greater degree of devastation and this is present day, so its fresh in our minds.
Yes, EDL and BNP are formed of a basis of thuggery, but although I don't support their actions, in a way, I can understand frustrations and national pride play a part with people and comes out sadly in the way of violent acts as a reaction to those who come and live here in the UK and want to cause trouble on our door step and its well documented that they do. These mostly Islamic immigrants should be pleased to enjoy the freedom, liberation and refuge this country offers, rather than turn against it. I was astounded to see some so called groups of average peaceful members of the Islamic community jumping for joy outside a Mosque here in the UK at the news at the delight of 9-11. With regret, I also had the misfortune of having to drive my car through an Asian Community street where upon my car was spat at by the kids whilst their parents just watched. Those two incidents sadly made my mind up rightly or wrongly to have very very poor opinion of those type of people. Because of that, does it make me "rar right" or a thug? Perhaps from now on, I will keep my own council in for fear of being branded a racist or Politically Incorrect.

In response to paragraph one, where did I say I apologise for the actions of the EDL? Thats purely your assumption....not mine.

"NEXT"...Yes, there are anti british demos, the latest fresh to mind of some groups of Muslims burning poppies on Remembrance Sunday....

"NEXT" read what I say properly. I DO NOT CONDONE the actions of the EDL!!

Some elements of the Islam Religion - in the same way that Northern Ireland is portrayed as Catholic vs Protestant, most Christians are appalled at the behaviour there.

Fantastic, a child spits on your car so everyone from that community is branded a terrorist or "those type of people" (and if I was you - I'd seriously start to do some thinking about what that phrase is meant to mean).

What people are trying to get you to do is challenge your opinions and get you to consider the consequences of a certain type of attitude - not just pretend that attitude is OK as long as you keep it to yourself.

And on that note, I'm still curious how you manage to square outrage at protesters at a remembrance event which is about remembering those who've died fighting for freedom when you're not willing to accept that others have those freedoms - whether you like them or not.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

No, I'm sorry, that isn't evidence - that's a Youtube puff piece for the EDL.

I'll ask again. What are the statistics for the number of these demonstrations. And, how does that compare with the number of EDL fracas around the UK- many of which have led to the police being assaulted.

Facts man, facts, not Youtube videos.

Trainbrain185. You don't know the slightest think about Islam, nor probably any other religion. All you know is right wing propoganda, whether you've been fed it or came to it on your own. So please, do some research, get some evidence, then come back.

Good for you pal, I am pleased you had a good laugh.....then you may have well just have laughed in the faces of the victims of 9-11 and 7-7. Luckily your guffaws were cut short with the find of the devices on the Freight Flights a couple weeks ago huh?

Oh jeez......"NEXT"..........

For someone who doesn't 'condone' the actions of the EDL you seem to do a very good job of trying apologising for them.

Of course their are some extremist rallies in the UK. But then this is a democracy. That means we have to put up with all sorts of nutters - we've had to tolerate the NF/BNP/EDL/Combat 18 for years - that's the downside of living in a democracy. IN comparison to the years of thuggery we've had to put up with from them a few people burning a paper poppy is nothing.
