Yes, it did well *not* to show people in masks, apart from the brief shot of the lady on the IET.
Indeed, it's a shame that one brief moment spoilt it. Just take it out, and it would be fine

So thankful for vaccines and the amazing science and effort behind it all. Very keen for the rest of the planet to benefit too. That's something that I reckon's worth getting fussed about.
Exactly why we should not be undermining confidence; the vaccines means we can get back to normal and advertising should make this clear.

The idea we should still be fearful risks undermining confidence in both the vaccines and public transport.

Didn't bother me in the slightest really, it was so fleeting and subtle

I saw the advert on BT Sport, well I heard it and glanced at the TV and was surprised to see the red double arrow.

Yes we often have different opinions, so this isn't a surprise;)

Advertising ought to be inclusive rather than divisive though. It seems especially odd if the messaging is ostensibly 'back to normal'

But is is being inclusive by saying that if you want to wear a mask please do - even in a subtle way. We need everyone back on the trains including those people who want to continue to wear a mask at this time.

If that's the aim, why not show someone with a mask and someone on the train without?

Haven't they cleverly done that by showing some children on a train without masks? I wouldn't agree that the one mask "spoils" it. It is just a nod to the current situation, is inclusive towards mask enthusiasts and makes it feel realistic, similarly to the shot of a Sprinter at the start. On the other hand the Northern ad is absolutely full of masks; doesn't have the same vibe about it at all.

Good advert. I saw a static version at Medway Services on Monday evening on one of the illuminated boards.

Children weren’t obliged to wear face coverings in the first place.

They could have had a couple sitting together (one with and one without) if they really wanted to send this type of message.

Yes, that's what I meant by it being "clever", although that probably isn't the best word for it. By showing children playing, they are able to give the impression of carefree maskless travel, without leaving themselves open to criticism from mask enthusiasts.

They could have had a couple sitting together (one with and one without) if they really wanted to send this type of message.
But that would be open to (unjustified of course) criticism from mask enthusiasts which would detract from the carefree vibe of the video. I really think they've got the balance just right.

It’s high time these people were ignored. People who are that pro restriction should consider emigrating to Australia or New Zealand…

Just watched it (I don't watch much telly so I've only heard the audio version on LBC, which has a "friendly generic Northern bloke" voiceover similar to the one LNER use on their ads) and it looks decent to me, also establishing the double arrow as the brand again. Certainly put the effort in to tick all the "minority" boxes too, even to the point of showing someone with an artificial leg on the hiking scene.

Masks certainly have to feature to reassure those who do wish to continue wearing them that it's OK for them to do so and they should not feel uncomfortable in doing so. The rule now is personal choice, which means it is neither OK to criticise someone publically for not wearing one nor for wearing one. They did not however over-feature in my view, only one obvious scene.

Yes, agreed. That's a more elegant way of putting what I was trying to say. Whereas the Northern ad comes across much more as reassuring people who are fearful of the virus that all the staff they encounter will be wearing masks, without any consideration for those who might find that off-putting (although we should maybe bear in mind that it was released last month).
